A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Several of our scopes are used in the CMP Vintage Sniper competition on top of 1903 rifles. Brian Dick ... There really isn't a best place to buy 1911 magazines. Just watch the auctions as they show up with some regularity.

For shooting purposes or for collecting?

From the practical standpoint, I've relied on Wilson Combat brand mags for many years. 7 or 8 round capacity. I do like the metal baseplate version a little more but use both.

The nice thing about 1911's are the availability of surplus mags. There were NIW a couple years ago at the shows for cheap. Be careful though I bought some Chinese knock offs wrapped exactly like the GI issue . They did not have any printing on the wrappers which should have been my first clue. The price was good though 5.00 each. I had one floor plate go as the weld broke.

I purchased a Norinco mag brand new some time back and it was every bit as good as any GI mag I ever handled. Very well made,,, I'd have liked a handful of them.

I wish I could have bought a Norinco 1911 back then. I had my doubts until i talked to a guy who taught tactical entries years back. He told me most of the guys he worked with used the Norinco as a base gun to build on. I have about 6 minus the 1 mags that failed and still have about 4 still in the wrap. They work fine I just had an anomaly.
