Bubba'ing a Enfield?

I just got to ask, would it be a "bubba" thing to do to install a Parker Hale Scope mount on my Envoy? :eek:

I asked Brian at BDL Ltd if he had a PH5E4 avalible and he is looking into it so in the mean time I ordered from Collector's Source the matching Parker Hale scope bases. But was wondering if this is "sacrilege" so to speak? :confused: :eek:

The Envoy is a commercial rifle so I don't see the same issues with modification that I would with military service rifles. I wouldn't consider it a bubba job.

You do still have to consider that the Envoy is still a collectible rifle and that your mods will affect resale value.

The base I ordered is the same one as the Enforcer's base which is the police modified Envoy. It only needs 2 screws to attach the front base, the rear base is held like a normal Enfield Rear sight.

As for its value or lack there of cause of a modification, I don't forsee too much of a problem, will be holding onto this rifle for a long time. Will probably get old and give it away to my grandkids or something. :)

Yeah, tough call indeed.

I guess at that point if the job is done as cleanly and professionally as possible, it should still keep some value should you change your mind at some point - if I had kept every rifle I promised I'd never sell, my house would be full!

So you're basically creating an Enforcer clone? Sounds good to me, especially as you intend to keep it forever.

Well I promised the guy I bought it from I'll give it a good home, so I figure I'll do what he did have it for about 40 years before I found it another home. :D

Its a tough call, especially since I have not been able to find scope rings for it. However that may be fixed with some time on a mill. Wouldn't be the first time I have made gun stuff at work. :super:

As for it being a "neat" and "proper" job, the mounting of the forward scope base when the time comes will probably be done by Ellwood Epps (close by me to boot!), I am sure combined they got more experience on Enfields then any other store in Canada. So I figure they'll do a good job. ;)

I got the mounts today, not only were they "new" they were still in the original Parker Hale packaging unopened! :D

I say "were" because well I simply had to open them and "fit" them so to speak to see how they looked on my rifle. :D

Wouldn't do it myself; messing up a mint rifle.

Put an S&K type mount on it if you want to scope it. You could drill out the screw holes on the back of the S&K and run a Mk2 stock crossbolt through if you want to attach a AJP Twin Zero, PH5 etc. at the same time.

OK this is my 2 cents. It’s your rifle so do what you wish.
The Envoy, after conversion, wasn’t as stated an issue rifle but rather sold through the Brit. NRA for competitive target shooting. It was however done at Enfield to a fixed pattern that didn’t include scope mounts. For this reason alone it is a collectable Enfield otherwise it would only be worth what any other 7.62mm conversion done by the likes of G.E. Fulton would be worth. If you drill and tap you will lose all collectable value and the rifle will be worth the sum of it’s parts.
If it were me I would just wait for the correct sight or use a no gunsmith mount.

Apparently the barrel on my Envoy is the right type (snake skin hammer forged) but its longer then the standard as they seem to be about 27" long, while mine is a 29" long barrel. So not exactly too strict of a standard if I may say so myself. :)

Anyways I got the mounts, had trouble finding rings so I made up my own they were made together so they are "matched" ...

I included a counterbored hole for a lock washer hidden behind the clamping piece hidden from view to prevent the rings from getting lose once installed without the use of Loc-Tite.

They are at the anodizers currently (picked up by their courier today). :)

Now to go to Ellwood Epps and have the mounts installed. :D
