Collector's Source had some de-ac bofors not too long ago for less that that one would set you back. Maybe worth a call if you're serious about having one :)

Are the CS ones de-ac? I'm not convinced artillery pieces have to be de-ac in Canada.

I didn't know they were ex-swiss. I assume that aside from origin they are basically identical?

Claven2, I have heard all sorts of stories about whether artillery pieces are, or are not, subject to the Firearms Act and other "gun contol" legislation. Muzzleloading touch hole guns are accepted antiques, of course.
Is a Bofors full auto? Fulll auto firearms are prohib. as 12(2). But if an artillery piece is not a "firearm" under the gun control laws......
Quite apart from legal status, there is the willingness of a gov't. to allow the sale of functional artillery to be considered. There are regulations respecting the international shipment of articles of war. Everyone's favourite importer in Eastern Ontario did have that batch of 82mm mortars being sold in functional condition sans paperwork. A small piece, with wheels or without, in the 25mm - 2" range would be a lot of fun.

While the firearms act may not have intended to encompass artillery, the RCMP lab has apparently decided to do so. I tried to de-register my 76mm Sherman gun and mantlet last year but they refused, saying it was a barrelled weapon which could cause bodily harm. I'll wait for the conservatives to get rid of the longarms registry, and then see where that takes us.
The Swiss boforss are very similar, but not the same. The trailer chassis is somewhat modernized to European specs. I think my friend has his firing tennis balls or golfballs or something. For the differenc of 5 or 10 grand, I would want the Cdn one.

I'm slightly familiar with a case where customs destroyed (trying to be helpful apparently) the breech mech on an imported "milsurp" tank, the judge ordered them to replace it.

Of course I'm unsure of how long ago that was...

Well, even if it needed registration, there's no reason for custome to deactivate a tank cannon. Though I could see them trying to make you register it and produce a PAL and registration certificate to take posession.

No, they are full auto.

There are no FRT listings that I know of for the cannon families. The CFC tech mentioned that they also registered an RPG cause it had a sub cal kit in it. I asked about my 2" mortar, but he couldn't give me an answer.
I have a live 2inch mortar that Kearns and Mcmurchy used to sell. I'll tell you, those things are too much fun to be legal. :rofl:

Shucks, didn't know that. Since they were fed with a 4 round clip and only held 8 rounds I thought they were semi's guess now. Guess that means I cant own one seeing as I'm not grandfathered. :(

I heard some Post-War ones were automatic but I though the "Autocannon" ment semiautoatic fore the most part, never thought something this big would be fully automatic. :eek:
