Just got my uncle's service records from his 1917-1919 service with the USMC and he was issued M1903 #165,617 - no mention if it was a RIA or SA. If any of you have it, we need to talk!!!

I have several low number USMC rifles, but doubt I have that one. I need to clean up the gun room and prepare for a gunshow in a couple of weeks and will look anyway. Good luck in your search!

Jim,

You'll have to tell me what a "Form 782" is. I ordered the information from the National Archives and received a lot of information from his files. Medical records, records of service, even an application for a disability he made in 1925.

My only relative that was in WWI was a Great Uncle, brother of my Grandfather. I don't know much about him, but that he made it through the War and died of TB, Influenza, Pneumonia, or somesuch disease in about 1920. I did find his enlistment document on the Inet, (Ancestors.com) but not much more.
Of interest, his "occupation" was listed as "drug clerk". I guess he worked for Great Grandfather, a "Country Doctor", C.Z. Stidham. I have a great photo of C.Z. in a butchers apron standing over a cadaver taken at U.T.Memphis in 1890. I think they do better now in Med. school !!!

FWIW,
