I remember reading awhile ago of the early years of the Springfield M1A. As I recall, just after the move to Illinois, there was a short period of time when quality control issues started to appear. This I think was related to the loss of GI parts and the subsequent need to use newly manufactured replacment parts. Can anyone direct me to to a link or source for more specific and accurate info about this? I want to buy a used M1A and of couse now that I need this info I can't remember where I read it. Any help would be appreciated.

The quality issues weren't really an issue until after 085000. I prefer rifles under 85k but tolerate up to 100k.

Thanks for the response. Is there a number range where the problems were resolved? It seems the ones coming out now have left any QC problems behind. I'm not sure of the age of this used rifle and I'm eager but cautious.

Their match rifles seem to be good. The problem lies in their standard rifles. IMHO their QC went out the door when they ran out of USGI parts. I won't buy, sell, trade or squeeze the trigger with your finger on any of their standard rifles over serial number 100k .
