what do you meen by that, the CSP pages have some of the best info, on the 1911 variants in the world, awesome tech, history, and pictures.
as for buying a pistol, these arent set for that, only discussion

I'm not sure what the question is??? If you would like a value of a gun you have or are considering, post some decent pictures and folks here will try to give you some ballpark figures. If you are asking where to go to buy one, then this is not really the place. Try any of the gun auction sites. If you don't know much about the M1917, just ask and you will receive lots of info and reference source information.

This forum is 1911/1911A, I did not know if there was a better forum for M1917's questions or not. Also are these safe to shoot?

1911 A1 and service pistol, you in the right place, darn nice shooter you have.
only problem. its not laying next to my gals in the safe.
and yes, very safe to shoot, and a lot of fun. however, that old gal would do better looking good, and not shot that much anymore. a little oil, and when you handle it it use cotton gloves, the salts and acid on your hands will remove the nice original finish.
invest in a nice soft treated pistol case, best 20.00 you can spend, that will protect the value. and it will always look that nice. thanks for sharing.

Nice pistol. I also have a Colt. Value could be $350-$750 or more depending on the bore, if timing & lock up are tight and if it is the original finish. I fire mine once in a while. Your shells need to be in half moon or full moon clips in order for it to eject properly. Supposedly, you can load & fire the Colts (not S & W) without moon clips then eject them by hand with a pencil. Original holsters are expensive (at least in Pugetropolis), reproductions are available at "What Price Glory" for about $40.00. He also has the lanyards. If you're looking to sell you could post it on Gun Broker with a starting price of the minimum you would take. You don't have to have an FFL to sell there, just be sure to read the rules & laws. By the way, this would be a C & R or curio & relic. C & R licenses are handy to have. They allow you to receive C & R firearms from out of state without an FFL (if your state allows it).

These pistols are getting harder to find in 97% or better condition. The ones I have seen (primarily at Tulsa) are getting pricey! ($900-up)

stonewall - i like your large type , how'd you get that ?

first every old weapon should be checked by a competent gunsmith prior to shooting , now that ive CMA , the model 1917 is a robust revolver and if it checks out good should shoot well and reliably , i shoot my S&W M1917 regularly ,

the S&Ws later colts had a shoulder cut in the cylinders to allow shooting without the moon clips , but the early colts didnt have this and you will have to use the moon clips ,

Those are some nice looking pistolas! Here's mine, although the M1911 is a Colt reproduction.
