How do I identify an M1 stock? I have 2 carbines. The first is a Winchester serial #161xxx and the second is an Underwood, Blue Sky import serial# 6759xxx. The stock on the Winchester is slimmer than the other one. How can I tell if this is an original M1 stock? This Winchester carbine has a flat bolt, 2 hole upper hand guard and an Underwood barrel. I would appreciate any help.

An M1 stock will have a full "bridge" running left to right just forward of the trigger housing opening. An M2 stock will lack the "bridge" and a modified M1 stock will have a partial "bridge" or show evidence it has been removed. An M2 stock will also have a cutout in the left side of the stock for the selector switch.

M2 on top, M1 on bottom

Sid,

Brian's pics are a good answer to your request. BTW, if your SN info is correct you have early and a late Inlands. Feb 43 and Apr 45 approx.
