6mm 250 Savage

Anyone familiar with this cartridge??
I recently bought a couple of crates of reloading kit and found these RCBS Group G dies in 6mm/250 Savage.

What's the history on this cartridge?? What would its advantage be over a 243 Win??

I have one in the improved style:). It uses less powder and has better barrel life. I mostly shoot a 6br custom these days.
