I just saw the new listing of "buy it now" M1A1's on the CMP auction.

6,638,056

6,712,255

these are some pretty high numbers for M1A1 arent they? Any thoughts besides "they can't be original" or might these actually be? It seems to me that these are above most of the serial numbers I see quoted here for this variant.

m1 carbine watime production by Riesch states the second run serial numbers from 5,000,000-6250,000. Think you are right seems high. THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE, Len

I've had mine for a lot of years and it's a 674XXXX with a barrel date of 1-45 and a hand stamped 1 on the receiver. It's all Inland and it has all the proper Inland parts and an I-O stock and handguard and the correct cartouches and late features, ie: low wood, flip safety and bayonet lug. Is it original? I have absolutely no clue as to th e answer. All I can say is it's certainly worth the $250 I paid for it all those years ago.

It is possible 6,638,056 could have left Inland as an M1A1 but not 6,712,255.
