View Full Version : Strange problem (to me that is)

I had a strange problem on one of my rifles when I fired it for the first time, put in a fresh clip and it would short stroke and eat the fourth cartridge, none of the others, just the fourth.

Long story short it went away when I changed out the op rod catch, why would the op rod catch cause this?

It's possible the accelerator pad was worn, and started to signal for an early clip latch release.

Only thing is the clip itself never released, it would just eat that fourth round, and shoot the other seven just fine - crazy

Have you tried reversing the stack? IE top round on the left?

A lot of weird thing go on in there during the feed cycle. Remember the "7th round jam"? Just because a guide rib was nicked. Reverse the clip from top round right to top round left and the problem went away. The nick never bothered the 1st 6 rounds. Same instance here. The op rod catch didn't have to totally release the clip latch, just move it enough to alter the geometry. Or other such mysterious voodoo.

Had a case once where a rifle would not fire. Could not pull the trigger. Pulled back the op rod, ejected the round. Rifle would fire. Rifle would fire a couple more times, then, back to the problem. You could not pull the trigger. Drove me nuts. Finally, with the trigger group out, I began thumbing the hammer back over the trigger sear and pulling the trigger. Kept doing this over and over, and at times, the trigger again could not be pulled. Then I noted that the trigger pin was rotating. Pulled the pin out and found by rolling it between my thumb and forefinger, it had a slight bend in it. Replaced the pin and........no more problems.

Nope sure didnt.
Changing the op rod catch fixed the problem and now the rifles in others hands, thanks for the input though.
