I would have to rate it at excellent+ . There are a few (very few) dings in the stock, look like normal handling marks. A couple of wear spots in the bluing. All serials #'s that I can see match.
I'm real happy with this rifle. :D

That's a cute little Sessy Bramel :) You don't often see the splicedstocks where both pieces are from Russian stocks which yours looks to be. I have a soft spot for the Sestroryetsk made M91's.
Here's my first addition for the January thread. Techincally this is a late December purchase, but I've not had time to degrease this rifle and photograph it until the last couple of days :)
Say hello to my new non-refurb 1941 Sako straight-stocked M39 :)

Claven, that stock looks great......make sure you don't put a big ding in it, when you go to the range. It's not even my gun and the thought of marking up that wood makes me.:yikes: :yikes: :yikes:
Oddly enough, I too also have a Sako coming.:D

This is an isued rifle, so there are already a few dings in it, but for an issued M39 it's pretty good. Th receiver and other exposed metal has a pleasant amount of wear on it without being excessive. I really like this M39 - even more than my unissued examples.
Which Sako you got inbound? M39? Straight or PG stock?
I should warn you - if it's the other straight gripped M39 at CS, it's not correct. Probably a post-war refurb that got a leftover straight stock and got re-issued for training or something like that, but hte s/n falls well outside the proper range for an original Straight gripped stock 41 Sako.
Serial should be less than 207000.

It's not quite as nice as yours, pistol grip post war stock.....just your run of the mill 1942 sako, it doesn't look like the metal was refurbished, just dropped into a newer stock.
Only reason I bought it, because I like the way the M39's shoot.....Now I can leave my other one at home and shoot the crap outta the sako.

Sounds like it'll be a fun little M39 :)
I wonder what happened to CS's remaining inventory of M39's? I notice they were removed from the the website over the last coupla weeks...?
Wonder if they still have any of them in stock?

Just received an un-issued Brazilian 1908 with matching bayonet, sling, and sighting target. Practically perfect! Has the scroll type stock cartouche (not the star of David version), otherwise identical to the one in the South American knowlege base. Still partially in cosmoline. :)

I see that you two keeners have decided to hold an informal competitive poll of superior Brazilian 1908s. Badger must have a rack minty ones in his armory  ; but since they probably all have sniper scopes mounted, I'm afraid we will have to disqualify them!
Now me, I only have two, but the second one (its a star B) is sadly only excellent :( , not mint ; and it has no matching bayonet or target. :( :(
Perhaps I'll see if I can get a couple of photos for Andy; maybe just one of the target, since the rest of it just looks like Claven's MKL posting (and Andy's own safe queen).

Yesterday evening I received the latest addition to my collection of Canadian/British military firearms.
It is a Canadian-made Inglis No. 1 Mk1* Browning High Power pistol - i.e. the "Chinese" model - SN 1CH4149, which indicates that it was manufactured in late August 1944.
The pistol is in good overall shape, with all-matching serial numbers (though it has been re-parkerized, which is by no means unusual for these, actually.) Because it proved very difficult to get the pistols to the Chinese past the Japanese blockade, quite a few of this model (i.e. with the tangent-adjustable long-range rear sight and cut for the shoulderstock) were diverted to Canadian (and British) service during WWII to supplement supplies of the No. 2 pistol adopted by them, but both countries had a program a decade or two after the war to convert all such No. 1 pistols in their inventory to No. 2 configuration. This was accomplished by removing the tangent sight and milling its base off the slide, then installing the simple non-adjustable rear sight of the No. 2. pistol - the stock attachment slot on the rear of the gripframe was simply left in place.
What is interesting about this pistol is that it appears to have been in Canadian service - there is a C-Broadarrow mark on the left side of the slide at the rear, which is unusual in itself (since most Canadian pistols are not marked there, to my knowledge) but to my mind is definitely indicative of Canadian ownership and use - yet the gun is clearly still in the unaltered "No. 1" configuration. This suggests to me that the pistol must have been surplussed (or otherwise "removed" from military service ;) ) before the conversion program affected it.
Quite some time ago, I acquired a repro shoulderstock/holster - in anticipation of eventually filling this niche in my collection - and am pleased to report that it fits perfectly! :D
Some pictures (click each thumbnail for full-size image ...)
First, the C-Broadarrow stamp on the left side of the slide:

Just picked this little puppy up today. She's a matching 6" .38-200 S&W M&P Pre-Victory made in 1940, and guess what? UNISSUED ;) Only sign of wear is the cylinder stop line from cycling the action. Even the case colors & blueing are 100%. And Canadian marked, too.
I swabbed the cosmolene out of the barrel and cylinders myself earlier tonight... came from an estate with a bunch of other really old pristine S&W's that I couldn't afford... :(

sailorjosh - over at CGN you were wondering about what you should do with respect to the appearance. Don't refinish. By all means gently clean it, but don't do any refinishing, hard scrubbing, sanding, wire wheeling, etc.
A couple of points. The magazine looks like a later Australian Lithgow, from the colour. If it is, you might want to eventually swap it for one contemporary with the rifle. Also, the nosecap appears to be one for a SMLE Mk. I rifle, not a III. What is written on the right side of the buttsocket, underneath the bolthandle?
Claven2 has said that he is not a Mosin collector; he therefore cannot be competing with Bramel.

I have a new,to me, 1945 Ishy No.1Mk.III* that I will post pics of in the next day or two. Is it weird to collect Ishy's?
Josh, nice SMLE
tiriaq, are Mk.I nose caps the same as the Ishy flat-siders?

The only reason I was really contemplating refinishing was because there are two patches where it looks like the finish came right off. The magazine isn't the one that came on the rifle, I got that off another SMLE sporter I have, the one that came with the rifle has pretty much no finish left so I slapped in the other one for the sake of the pictures. I'll get back to you on the other questions, I'm not at home right now.

sailorjosh,
As soon as you refinish that rifle it will lose most of its value. Is the nosecap matching? If so, I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest maybe it's a Con'd MkII or similar rifle made out of an earlier MkI SMLE or Long Lee.
Those nosecaps can bring $100 by themselves on the bay ;) They are RARE.

Also the bolt does not match. How do I tell if the nosecap matches? I don't see any numbers on it.

OK, the body looks to be Enfield 1917. BSA barrel, so it got rebarrelled at some time. The nosecap 15 years older than the body. The nosecap certainly looks as if it belongs on the stock. Front handguard looks to be a replacement. Its an interesting rifle.

My job's okay but my wife makes more than me. The carbines came out of my carefully saved allowance.;) Good thing they're relatively cheap to buy or I might have missed out on some good ones.
