Hey guys,
Looked around the inet today for a nice M1917 bayonet and scabbard.
Not so easy to find a good set for a decent price.
Found an excellent Winchester bayonet and scabbard for three hundred bucks. Un-sharpened blade, blued handle metal and gray blade. Nice wood. Is this a fair price for such a pair?

Well you rarely ever see a Winchester bayonet up for sale so almost any price.....
However I have been looking at a pair and if I remember right they are in the 260 dollar range so 300 is not out of the question I would guess.

You might keep an eye out on epay. I think you may find one at a better price. They seam to show up in waves. None for a while, and then 2 or three at once. Also check gunbroaker. I picked up a good one about 6 months ago for $185.

did one of the importers reblue 1917s? It seems like I have seen a lot of import stamped 1917s that looked like they were reblued sorry I put this on the wrong thread

Its highly unlikely an importer would have blued any M1917 seeing as up to about 5 years ago nobody really gave a hoot about the M1917 (except for a few of us diehards) so an importer would have looked on it as trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear.
More likely would be re-blued by the foreign govt that had the rifle OR its still the original blue finish.

I got a couple from SOG when they still had them. The earlier 1917 pattern has a worn finish, ( no cleaning hole). The second was a P-14 model with a 4-16 date that has new grips and was reblued at one point. Both have british scabbards.

If you have a "reblued" M17 bayonet in 99% you have a british Home Guard refurbished piece. In early years of WWII they obtained from USA a lot of M1917 rifles 30/06 cal with relevant repark bayonets, Rifles stocks were painted with a red strip around handguard just to alert that cal was 30/06 and not .303.
In the pics bayonets I got from England, a Remington and a Winchester.
Too bad UK ebay rules since a couple of weeks dont allow ads of such stuff no more.

I forget who it is but someone that posts here (if he didn't get lost in the switchover) sells some and maybe he will post up with info for you.

Bought a Winchester bayonet with British scabbard 6 yrs. ago and paid 100 bucks plus shipping. Winchesters are hard to find, so maybe you should buy it. Just my opinion

I had three correct bayonets and scabbards I sold last year - two were as nice as you could wish for. I must have hit a slump, because I had to sell them for far less than what I thought they were worth! :(
