Coming up in a local auction. Part of it has been sporterized. Worth bidding on?: Poor image is on their end. I had to copy and run it through image processing.
50 (http://www.plossauction.com/new_page_50.htm)
Rest of auction is Huge Liquidation Auction (www.plossauction.com)

Item number for rifle is 50. Link still works. Huge Liquidation Auction should be Huge Liquidation Auction (www.plossauction.com). Link still works for prior one. Thanks.

The barrel is cut short (20"?) so that wouldn't be a good canidate for restoration to military configuration. The stock can be stretched. Action OK too. Has a M1901 sight.
Otherwise it could be stripped & parts sold on Ebay if the price was right.

If that is a M1899 carbine with a 22-inch barrel (proper front sight and crown), and the M1901 sight has the proper "C" markings, the only thing wrong is the cut-down rifle barrel.
Replacing the stock will cost approximately $300, M1899 carbines go for $1000-$1200, sometimes more.
M1901 Carbine sights can cost $200 or so, so if the sight is wrong, figure that in.

The sight ladder is broken, so it's going to need a new one, carbine or otherwise.

You have a good eye! The sight was broken. It did have a flip sight at it's base. I do not know if the flip was original.
Best thing about it was a beautiful 1891 cartouche and the action. Went for $350.00!!!
