Picked this up a while ago. Very late serno (609xxxx).

Haven't had the rear handguard off yet but everything (almost) says that it's a Type 1/2 NM. Curious thing is that the op rod is NOT marked NM...though I've come to learn to never say never with these fine old rifles.

NM/2 rear/ NM 052 sights. NM marked barrel. Last 4 digits written in pencil inside the barrel channel, etc.

I know they built them in steps (added features) as time went on (i.e. early NM rifles had no NM markings/sights, etc.)...

Looking for your observation/opinions on what this is and if there were op-rods that were used on NM rifles that met the spec. but weren't so marked.

Thanks in advance.

It looks like an early transition 1960 NM2 so it may not have a NM op rod. You should spend the $25 fee and have CMP look it up from old DCM records.

The barrel mark says it's a 1960. The NM rod wasn't introduced until 1961, so it wouldn't have it. The hooded sight was introduced in 1962, and was commonly added by shooters who had earlier guns.
