Your best bet is to buy a copy of "Rifle and Carbine firing" by Capt' Stanhope E. Blunt. It was reprinted about 14 years ago and, I believe, still available from :Books on Broadway, 12 1/2West Broadway, Williston,N.D.58801
ph.(701)572-1433. The email is: bksbdwy@nemontel.net . If you should phone them ask to speak to Mr. Wilder. It's a reprint of the revised 1886 edition. It has illustrations of many different firing positions for the soldier, drawings of target frames and explains the different types of (oval) targets used at that time.
I have seen original manuals offered on ebay but didn't want to screw up one that old by using it.
