While doing a little mid winter bore cleaning, I took note of my Savage #4 Mk I*, it has serial # 1C845X. It has all the looks of an early rifle. I installed a style #1 Mic sight (F marked) for shooting reasons but kept the S marked flipper. The gun shoots an easy 3.5" group with the flipper and figured I might get it down a tad with the better sight. The gun is near mint and completely S marked. Could anyone tell me where the cut off is for the mic style sight? MT-SDH:help:

The rifle is a Mk. I*, and not a Mk. I? What is the receiver date? There has been discussion of the Savage contract rifles at w ww.gunboards.com. You might want to check there.

Yes it as the splat, I can't figure that one out. I also can't find a date but my book points to 1942. Go figure? If time allows I'll hit the gunboards and see what pops up, Many Thanks-SDH

The earlier Savages were date stamped, but I don't know the serial range when this was discontinued, or for that matter when the Mk. I sight was phased out and the Mk. II became standard. I suspect that this is a rather early I*.
