Hey guys and girl,

What is the size of the Eddystone "E" on the mag spring? Ordered an '03 spring from Numrich and maybe got a 1917 spring. The "E" is serifed and about 3/32" tall, kinda' tiny. Do I have an M1917 spring?

Thanks and death to tyrants and traitors,

LB

1917 and 1903 springs will interchange.

Thanks Chuck,

Guess I now have a Remington and Eddystone M1917/'03 spare spring. Compared the E marked spring to one out of a 1903, very close but a little different profile on the top and bottom. The Remington spring has a straight bottom.

if your spring is straight, it should be repalaced.
the only real differance i can see in a new 17 to 03 spring is the stamp and color.
with the bow in the spring, it will be snappier..so to speak.
iv taken many a GI 03,s apart, that i know, Joe gunsmith hasnt messed with them yet, and found 17 springs in them.
some came from the CMP over the last few years.

Thanks Chuck,

I meant the bottom part of the Remington spring is straight on the sides, it is very springy and has the shape of a bowed "W", that's good. The Remington spring is made of a thicker steel than the Eddystone.

i have a .50 cal ammo can full of new 17 and 03 springs.
when i first got them, they were in a wooden box,
marked,
magazine spring rifle. cal. 30 nothing more.
the top of the spring should have a step so it will fit in the follower, the bottom should be straight to fit the floorplate.
