I bought a Ithaca 1911 that has been blued. I want to park it back as close as I can to the original finish. Where do you guys buy your park solution and who's solution works best? Also Zinc Phosphate would be the best choice to try to make it as original as possible right? Thanks in advance!

Brownells sells Zinc phosphate. though pricey. it is easy to use.
though i no longer use that solution.
i use the same supplier that the military uses, not recommended for a one time job.
they have a 50 gal, min. order. at 1200.00 for a drum delivered.
a gallon of brownells is around 100.00 by the time you get it shipped with ORMD tacked on.
you can do it in a stainless 8 quart stock pot, wal mart sells them for 10.00
use distilled water, and not plain ol tap watter, the things they put in normal tap water will give you fits.
youll have to chem strip the blue first, a silly as it sounds,
a liter of Coke, in a small bucket will strip that blue pretty quick, and you can pour it down the drain when finished.
rinse with hot water and a SOS pad. then bead blast prep, and yoru ready to go.
youll need a bit of curing oil mixed up to set the phoshate to cure in.
i use Harley fork oil mixed with mineral oil. it works very well, and removes water from any nooks and cracks.
cplstevennorton,
Did you buy that gun in a gun shop that begins with "K"? If so, I looked at that weapon a few weeks ago. Nice gun! Very tight. Hope your repark goes well.

Unless you just want to do it yourself you might check with Chuck off-line and get a price for him to do it for you. He refinished my carbine for a very reasonable price and it looks outstanding. - JMO, ok?

Yes I did. lol Are you in Ohio? I know the guy who owned it. He had probably one of the nicest 1911 collections I have ever seen. I have bought a lot off him in the past, so he sold me the Ithaca dirt cheap. It's a nice gun, just needs parked.
cplstevennorton,
I live in Columbus but do a little traveling for work. Every time I'm in that area of the state I stop at the store. I have met "Doc" and have been lucky enough to have spend time talking personally with him in the back room of the shop. Small world!!!!
Good luck with your collecting,
Steve

Lol, real small world! Doc has a collection that very few can ever rival. You should see of his keeper stuff at his house. :) But yeah that is auesome. I run a store around the corner from the gun shop and go over there almost everyday to see what he pullls out.
Cplstevennorton,
I'll drop you a line prior to my next trip out. Maybe we can meet up at the gun store or your store. Think I'm due out there first week of June.

I use Lauer zinc phosphate, and I buy it from Grizzly Tools. 25.95 for a gallon of concentrate. I live near Bellingham and pick it up at the showroom, no shipping or hazmat charges. Does a VERY nice job too.
