I have 2 German FN manufactured G1's. Both have wooden butt stocks with metal hanguards with horizontal ribs, and the folding bipods. One rifle has a synthetic pistol grip the other has a wooden pistol grip. the wood griped one has an X carved in it , does that stand for what I think it does??? and does anybody know the production periods of the wooden grip?
IIRC, they came new with wood that would be replaced with synthetic as needed.

"...has an X carved in it...does that stand for what I think it does???..." What do you think it means? A big 'X'? Likely put there by some troopie looking for a better grip. Wood gets slippery when it's wet and icy. Gloves don't always help.

Most went to Turkey, where they were beaten up, carved up and the finish worn off.
