The Germans were exporting binoculars in 1942?

The Germans were exporting binoculars in 1942?

Yes.... :)

In the Milsurp Knowledge Library - Sweden Section (http://www.milsurps.com/forumdisplay.php?f=19), we have a 1908 Swedish m/41B Sniper Rifle c/w Ajack 4x90 1942b Scope. (http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=332)

Those Ajack scopes were made in Germany until the SS forced stop shipments on these optics to Sweden. At that point Sweden started making their own sniper scopes and that's what you see mounted on the other two sniper rifles (m/41 c/w AGA42 scope & m/41 c/w AGA44 scope) also in the Swedish library.

Here are my pickups for the month thus far... an 1899 Carl Gustafs M38b and a 1943 Tula PU refurb with original refurbed scope.

Also picked up a M1903A3 yet to be detail cleaned and photographed along with some bayonets and assorted other goodies.

I just took delivery of this "Periscope, MkIX" made by instrument maker R & J Beck Ltd in 1917. I haven't found out a lot about these yet, it has been suggested they were on issue to artillery officers..... :dunno: any info appreciated.

It has focusing optics that seem to magnify slightly, (maybe only 1.5 or 2x.) and is clear to view. Externally it is in great condition as well, retaining over 90% of it's original paint. Except for the handle and lenses, the whole thing is made from brass. It is 23" long. The only thing missing- there seems to be provision for a rubber eyepiece....
This periscope will sit nicely in my small (but growing) collection.:)

Lovely piece... and rare ...

~Angel~ (Mrs. Badger) has exactly the same "Trench Periscope" in her collection, except hers is Serial #6230. It was never painted and has an all brass finish, so perhaps the earlier serial number manufactured ones didn't do that. They were used not only by Artillery, but in general by all levels of troops (including snipers), who needed to see without being seen for observation, as well as safety of not sticking one's head up ... :)

~Angel~ also has a U.S. manufactured Wollensack used by U.S. troops for the same purpose.

I've been meaning to do photo montages of these pieces for our knowledge library, but I've got so many rifles and pistols lined up for that work, I've sort of put accessories at the rear of the photo shoot line up. :D

Yes, I had got the idea they were not common. Although, as soon as I purchased this one, two more popped up on e-bay, one of which also looked as if it had never been painted, and it was dated 1918. Would you know if ~Angel's~ periscope has a broad arrow on it? I have seen pics of six or seven of these and haven't seen one with the stamp on it yet.

When you get around to the telescopes for the MKL, I've got the pam "Section 33, The Straight Telescope". Gives full stripping & reassembly and care instructions for the Scout Regiment Telescope from I believe the late seventies here in Aus.

Cheers,
Son.

I just checked her "1917 Beck" from top to bottom and no, I don't see a Broad Arrow anywhere. I think I read something about this someplace, but can't quite remember.

You don't need to wait on the manual. If you point me to a link, or email me at badger@milsurps.com , I'll host the manual and out an entr together for you.

Thanks

Nice NZD carbine. From the pics though it looks as though the butt is a replacement and you have a regular cavalry carbine handguard. The original extended all the way to the nosecap.

As for this month's purchases, picked up this little beauty. It came to me in a scant stock that was split at the recoil lug :( Luckily I was able to find this original and correctly cartouched FJA S stock :) You can still faintly make out the ordnance wheel to the left of it too.

Now everything is zen!

The brown patches in the pics are some stubborn old crusted on cosmolene in a few places - not rust ;)

Great lookng 1911. If memory serves, it doesn't look like a Canadian gun based on serial range. Probably US issue or private purchase.

Too bad about hte holster pitting, but still a very nice piece :)

Thanks Claven. It is indeed not canadian marked, the original owner, according to the seller, was the gent whos name is on the holster.

Im really happy with it
