I had a number of sets of dies given to me recently. One set is as above. Just which cartridge is this and which rifles shoot it? Dave

7.62 Russian could be 7.62x54r or 7.62x39 and they are two completely different rounds.
7.62x39 is used in the SKS, AK etc.
7.62x54r in used in the Mosin Nagant, SVT, M39 etc.

I saw both 7.62x39 and x54R the other day in Wholesale Sports. Lee makes them so it could be either.
but not too many reloaders are going to be reloading for the SKS / AK

I'm going to start reloading 7.62X39 (I just started X54r), better ammo has just got to improve my SKS accuracy :ugh:

Anything is possible, but it being 7.62 Nagant is doubtful. For one thing, that's pistol caliber and I would think it would be obvious if they were pistol dies.

Hate to revive such an old thread but as a point of interest 7,62 Russian is 7,62x54. 7,62x39 is
7,62 Soviet.

Never heard of M43 called "7.62 Soviet". "7.62 Russian" used to exclusively mean x54R but with all the SKS's and VZ's in the country now, it's not as sure an identification.

7.62 Tokarev I believe.
I've seen 7.62x39 dies marked 7.62 Russian Short. The overall length of the die may give a clue. You could always poke a pencil up inside and see how far up the shoulder is.

The pistol cartridge used by the Tokarev and CZ52 pistols, as well as a number of submachineguns.

The funny thing is I have dies for the 7.62X54R, 7.62X39, 7.62 Nagant, and just ordered a CZ-52 so I will need to get a set of 7.62X25.
Confusing, isn't it?

Perhaps a bit more information is needed. Who made the dies? Are there any other markings on them? Did they come in a box with the makers name, or any loading information with them? Look on the top of the dies, and on the sides for any stampings.
Take a vernier caliper and measure the inside of the hole at the bottom of the sizing die -- that's the one with the decapping pin. Give us some better information, and someone will help you.
