The local gunshop has 2 trapdoors in stock.

The first is an 1873 Carbine. Sorry I forgot to get the S/N. The lock has a 1877 date on it. The stock is cartouched 1881. Overall it is in good condition. No missing parts. Best guesses as to value?

The second is an 1884 Rifle. The S/N is 291753. No date on the lock I could find and no stock cartouche. Missing the cleaning rod. Overall in poor condition. Best guesses as to value?

yields the following value range:

carbine (whether cut down or not) $200 - $13,000+

rifle $200 - 500

sorry, repeating a standard response to this question, asking this question without a TON of addional informations is like asking someone this:

"Hey Carrol Shelby, you know a lot about Mustangs, I got this 1967 Mustang, how much is it worth?"

200-25,000 is an accurate range.

The local gun store has a carbine on the wall that is priced at $3000. It'as been there so long that it's about time they frame it under glass!

Right on, Hugh Uno. Sometimes it is more like, "I got this thing that somebody says might be a car, how much is it worth and what can you tell me about it?"

Some Pictures of the rifle..... I took these today. Best I could do. Just looking for the best guesses as to value. Not asking for anyone to stick their neck out. Not sure if I want them or not. The rifle is kind of rough.

Some pictures of the carbine....Again am looking for a best guess as to the value. I realize that descriptions are not as good as pictures. The carbine looks good enough to shoot with black powder loads.

Found this one on a table at a local patio sale for $125 if that is any help. It's a cut down rifle but whoever did the bob job did a fairly good one. I picked up some ammo for it but have yet to take it out and shoot it

The top one is a Warner Bros movie gun. Most were made from various parts and were "repaired" many times. Usually found with very dinged stocks. I could not see enough of the identifying features of the other to make an evaluation. Better pictures showing the markings on the sight and the fore end and muzzle are would be required.

USMC69, Im no expert. the carbine's sr# 491753 is close to 1889, you have some other part,s that are from other era's. carbines are worth quite a bit more then the rifle's. Check out [trapdoor.com] to help get an idea, I really like the old carbines. Good luck. lboos.

USMC69, Today on trapdoor.com
$795-$1395=cut off's
$1495-$2995=carbine's
$2200-$6995=carbine's Custer era.

Most of the carbine trapdoor's i've seen at gun shows start around $1200[Atl. area].

You might want to tell us how much the seller wants for the guns. I don't think anyone here is going to try buying them out from under you. At least with an known asking price we could let you know whether or not the deal is worth it.

Not sure what he is ging to ask for the pair. I am not sure I want them. I like the carbine, but outside hanging it on the wall I don't know what I would do with it.
