I read an interesting article in the January issue of American Rifleman on p. 80 by Philip Schreier.
It values an Eddystone SN 596131 NRA Very Good Condition (80% original finish, all original parts), manufactured in 1918 at $800.
The article states that as recent as 10 years ago prices were quite modest. Now M17s in decent condition (50% to 75%) bring $350 to $600, depending on manufacturer (W bring the most; E bring the least).
He states that high-polish blue guns with matching barrels and receivers can bring close to $2500.
The article may interest other M17 owners.
Oh yes, the great debate concerning Alvin York's rifle.......the author made an interesting comment a betting man would appreciate.:dunno:

Phillip must have some rifles that I wants to increase the value of. There is no such thing as a $2,500 standard issue M1917. Typical example of a gun writer that is "out of touch" with reality.

Well I'm not saying that a minty one is worth that or that I would pay that but I have seen some crazy prices on the auction sites.I saw two different Remington Mosin Nagants model 91's go for over two grand. Not worth it but two different sellers got their prices.Only mint ones I have ever seen.
I you had a mint 1917 never fired ,what would you want for it?
It puts a new perspective on the deal when it's yours.
I have never seen a mint one, have seen some real nice ones going in the $1200 to $1500 range, but never a mint one.So who knows?

A "mint" 1918 Remington P17 just sold on Auction Arms for $2,600.
Nicest one I've ever seen.

I you had a mint 1917 never fired ,what would you want for it?Now that would be a different story, if it was a documented, as new and unfired except for proofing then I could easily see a 2500 price tag or even higher. But as far as I know the only ones that fit into that category are in museums, bummer!
Now I do have a very late Eddystone that is pretty much as new as I have ever seen but lacking any documentation I would be dubious of being able to get much more than a grand for it (if I was ever to sell it that is).
Dan
mine is far from mint, I think I'll claim Alvin carried it!
$2500., anyone?

Closing price was $2,760. A nice rifle. However, far from mint condition.

I noticed the face of the sight ladder was polished. Is this how they came from the factory? This was the case with the 03's until the late 30's from what I've read.
