I need suggestions for a larger ID front sight element for a 144LS for use in NRA 50ft Smallbore. I bought the rifle without sights, and have the full set of elements, and I believe I need to try some a bit larger.

I had a guy in England make me clear plastic ones for an old Walther air rifle and a BSA 12/15, and if nobody has any better ideas, that's where I will go again.

Even with too small ID elements, I'm shooting better with the 144LS than I do with a 52D.

What make and model of front sight do you have now?

by element I assume you are talking about the insert in the globe front sight. You will want the insert to leave a nice white ring around the bullseye. This will help it center in the rest of the sight set up. If the sight is a Mossberg, try Vic Havilin @ Havlin Sales & Service - Mossberg Gun Parts (http://www.havlinsales.com/right.htm)
He list the Mossberg front sight and the Lyman 17A front sight for the 144LS. If you have the Mossberg, put away for sae keeping and install a 17A so you can change inserts for the conditions you are shooting in.

Helo CDD,
I have also shot a Mossberg 144 (US Property stamped) ) and a Winn. 52(B), ...and have to agree! The Mossberg 144 is onene shooting rifle!
Not sure what front sight you have now,.. but a Lyman 17A would a good choice. They are available, reasonable cost & many inserts are available.

What I have now is a Lyman 17A. I don't have much white around the Bullseye.

Inserts are available from Brownells Gunsmithing supplies. The complete set should give you the proper sight picture.
