Fellas, I just installed an Adams Arms carbine piston kit. 15 minutes and the install was done! Very easy! The modification to the Blackhawk hand guard rails system was a little more time consuming though. I took it out for a test drive yesterday and WOW! Flawless performance.

Pros:
ease of installation
quality of parts
reliability
after the shoot cleaning
price, very reasonable

Cons:
no bayonet lug
no sling attachment point
have to purchase a picatinny mounted front sight
and not such a biggie, Adams Arms logo everywhere!

Overall, I'm very pleased with this system. I did check out the CMMG system as well and they have a sling attachment point and bayonet lug.

At a gun auction Thursday and I kept track of what .223s went for per box and divided by 20. Came out to $1.25 a round. People were glad to pay it. Bricks of .22s were going for $65 a brick.

Two H Bars went for about $1,200 each. That surprised me as that is what they usually retail for. Panic over with?

Well, I have been fairly successful rounding up reloading supplies for my M4gery. I have thousands of rounds of brass, and about 1200 small rifle primers. My dies are coming in the mail from Midway, as we speak (I already had 223 dies for years, but can't find them!) Found 2 pounds of IMR 4198 for $30 a pound at a local shop, and am on the list for 1,000 55 grn FMJBT projectiles from Midway USA, due the first part of April. I prefer the 55s, since I shoot M193 LC for duty ammo, and I have a 1/12 retro 602 clone build that loves the 55s! I should be able to load M193 for about $0.23 to $0.25 a round.

I know there are more popular powders (WW748 and H335, etc.) for 223, but couldn't find them anywhere. IMR 4198 is sorta forgotten, though, as it is one of the original powders used for 5.56 reloading. It seems 21-21.5 of the IWR 4198 with the 55 grain pill is the way to go. (30 years ago, I used 4198 to load some 223s, but I have no clue what load I used. Just remember it being exceptionally clean burning, and that my 16" SP1 carbine loved it because it is on the faster side.
?
Anyone have a pet 4198 load with 55 grainers

I stopped by the gravel pit up in my patrol area to try my new 3.5 ounce H buffer I put in my M4gery patrol carbine: to see how it functioned, if I noticed any difference in feel/performance , and also to check zero one more time.

Zero was dead on with the Taco Accupoint red dot, shattering a clay pigeon at about 100 yards with the first shot. I continued to plink the rest of a 30 round magazine (as much as I dare with the ammo situation). I noticed three things:

1) They ejection pattern was different from a 3 ounce buffer, cases landing neatly at 1:30 to 2:30 or so, rather than 4 o'clock to 5 o'clock like the 3 ounce.

2) The action was definitely smoother feeling and noticeably quieter during cycling.

3) The overall experience was more like shooting my retro 1/12" twist 602 clone with its 20 inch barrel and rifle buffer. Shooting a carbine with a standard buffer, there is more felt recoil from the buffer slamming to the rear, even with a USGI spring. The whole platform seems just "on the edge" with the standard buffer. With the H buffer, the felt experience was totally different. More "controlled" and more self assured!:o

Talking with several local dealers, .223/5.56 is the most in demand (and out of stock) ammo, followed closely by 9mm, 7.62x39, and .40 S&W. With prices of .223 being close to a buck a round ($0.80 to $0.90 a round + tax or shipping), my shooting recreation with my ARs has become a thing of the past. For two AR15s, I only have about 800 rounds of LC M193 and 500 rounds of assorted reload or steel cased in my stockpile. With ammo prices being the way they are (or worse.. a local gun show was selling .223 for $400/200!), and availability being almost non-existant, I can afford to replace anything I shoot! It is a shame, as I carry an M4gery as a patrol carbine, and would like to do usual practice, at least 100 rounds a month, to stay proficient.

At least I reload cast bullets for my M1 Carbines and .44-40s.

It's got the Tasco scope, ARMS carry handle mount, Colt cheekpiece, two 20 rnd magazines (pinned to 5 - dammit!!!:crying:), the original manuals, and I have the case it came in (which looks a little worse for wear).

What's this combo package worth nowadays??(yes, I searched for a thread on this but didn't find one)
Thanks for any info.

I just finished the article by CHRISTOPHER R. BARTOCCI in the March 2013 issue of American Rifleman titled M16's of the Great White North. Abbreviation of the subject matter aside, it gave me a Cliff's Notes version of the differences between the M-16 and the CT and C8 series rifles/carbines. Included was a short explanation of the SAS L119A1 version as well as the Light Support Weapon (LSW) version from Diemaco. Curious if this article gets a thumbs up or down from our Canadian members (and others of course).

I have been really busy lately, first spending a lot of time with my M1 Carbines (shooting and reloading), then for the last month I have worked 23 of the last 28 days...12 hour shifts with an hour commute each way added. Add to that my frustrated efforts to complete an M4gery for a patrol carbine (for my high country security contractor job), dealing with hysteria prices and scarcities, and I have been busy.

I alluded to this in another thread, but decided it was worthy of its own thread. I decided to take my 602/SP1 clone on patrol since I was working day shift for a change. I already had my range bag and magazines and ammo in the jeep, so it was simple to grab the 602 on my way out the door. The only reason I don't use it for patrol is the Kalifornicating bullet button and 10 round magazines. I refuse to make it "featureless" like my M4gery (allowing me to use high-caps), and spoil its beautiful retro lines.

My 602 is basically a complete Colt SP1, put on a California legal Nodak Spud 601 lower, with early mottled furniture. I haven't shot the 602 in over a year. WOW! I forgot how absolutely wonderfully the retro AR-15 handles, and its light weight, balance, and symmetry. Off-hand at 75 to 100 yards, no can or pinecone was safe. I had a ball, even limited by 10 round magazines and a bullet button. The 601/602 IS the purest form of AR-15, as originally envisioned and designed Eugene Stoner's design team at Armalite. What a weapon.

I tried making it featureless so I could carry it with high caps and a regular mag button, but it was UGLY:

I've just added an ex British military AR15 to my collection (deactivated) as appears common on ex British AR15's the serial number has been machined away on the magazine well, but it does have the serial number FH482XX below the Colt and AR15 logo's and CAL .223 and MODEL 02 still present - any ideas on production date or batch history?

I really like the concept of this scope, and the fact it's a well proven design. I just wondered if there are any AR-15 shooters out there who are currently using it? From what I've read the quality and glass are both good, in spite of the fact it's manufactured in China. Jim Leatherwood purchased the company currently making it, and supervises construction.

If any of you are currently shooting a M-1000, or an M-1200 I would like to get your opinion of the scope.

I am ususally a retro guy, but decided to do an M4gery to replace the 653 clone I traded for my gorgeous Standard Products M1 Carbine. I had bought a stripped Stag Arms lower a week before the insanity, and had misc. stuff like a lower parts kit, gas tube, slip ring, grip, and a few other things.

I was worried about getting the rest, especially a barrel. I usually get my barrels from Midway, but they are not even taking back oders. The prices on Gunbroker are nuts, but I managed to snag an ESS 16" M4 barrel for $220. Too much, but still good by today's hysteria prices.

I also got a complete Colt A2 (yes, I prefer built in carry handles, as I am not an optics guy) upper that was Cerrocoated for $100, which is actually a decent price. M4 stocks are still cheap, as were the Magpul handguards.

Most of the rest I actually got from e-sarco.com. They even still had charging handles for $14. The scarcest itme for lowers are magazine catches, which I got one of GB for $200 for the complete assembly.

The only part that I don't have, or that is on the way already is a blt carrier group. I am seeing them for $350-$400, give or take, so for now I'll share my 602s BCG!

I'll post some pics when I get it done.

The cartridge on the left is the Winchester 224E2 developed for the Winchester Light Weight Military Rifle. This rifle looked like an enlarged M1 carbine but was still diffferent, total weight was 5.5 lbs with loaded magazine, barrel was 20 inches. The Winchester 224E2 cartridge could be fired in the Armalite AR-15 which was chambered for the 222 Rem Special cartridge
which was slightly longer than the 222 Remington cartridge that was used at the start of the experimentation of the Armalite rifles. The longer 222 Remington case became the 222 Rem Special which became the 5,56mm and 223 cartridge. The 224E2 Winchester could be fired in the Armalite but the 222 Rem Special could not be fired in the Winchester becauseof the total length<a href="http://www.milsurps.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=40204" title="Name:
Here's a recent pic of my three to start it off. I just got the 12.5" in the center and it's a wonderful rifle to shoot. Had it out today in -15C weather and was banging the 200m gong with the irons resting on the edge of a bench.

Okay. I picked a forum at random to ask this question. Not trying to get anybody exercised or upset - just a genuine question from an individual who owns a variety of firearms, including an RRA LAR-15 NM A4. Please explain to me just what the need is for this magazine storage capacity. Is there some sort of competition that requires a hi-capacity magazine to get good scores? If there's not really a "need", is it some sort of desire? I really don't get it.

Picked up a little S&W .22 M&P at the gun show this weekend for about $550, along with a nice night scope. Woke up this morning to a little mossberg .22 under the tree.
Highly impressed, maybe 3 jams out of about 500 rounds. Not too bad for a little .22 AR.

Here's the little mossberg:

So far we've been highly disappointed with this one. Jams allot, with 4 different types of ammo. The overall quality is almost like a cheap airsoft gun. Good enough for an extra plinker when guest are over.

I have seen gun buying hysteria before, but this is ridiculous! A Stag Arms lower just closed for $515.00 in open auction.

ALL vendors I have checked are out of barrels and bolt carriers, too.

LPKs are up about double, but stocks are still the same.

Fortunately, several days before the shooting, I bought a Stag Arms lower for my pending tacticool build. I gave $150 + tax and DROS fee. I pick it up the day after Christmas.

My dealer told me that He now has to pay $375 for any lower he can find, and ARs that were $900 his cost are now $2,500 to $3,000! This beats the hysteria of the first Obama election.
