Well, i am new to these forums but i have a question and i want to know if anyone here can answer it.

I have a Quality Hardware M1 Carbine made in 1943. I bought it a few years ago at a gun show, and when i was cleaning it the other day, i notice a crack on the receiver. I have shot this gun on several occassion and I was wanting to know what i should do with it.

Would it be best to have it repaired or to just get a new one?

This is my first Post, so if I get somthing wrong let me know.
I have a question about the Winchester M3 infrared Scope. From what I have read the T3 or M3 were only manufactured by Inland and Winchester. I have not found any information about the date range. I also know there were only 2,100 of the infrared scopes manufactured. I also know that the infrared scopes were mounted on the M1 and the m2. I also believe that Winchester did not manufacture any M2 Trigger assemblies.
I have a Winchester, serial # 6451954, M1 Carbine with an Infrared Scope mounted on it. The infrared scope has a Serial # M3. 3488. 50. The Winchester is supposed to be original. All the Carbine parts are correct with a Winchester Trigger Assembly. However, the stock is a M2 with markings of Springfield Armory (SA over SHM).
Can someone verify that this is the correct stock for the Winchester M1 converted to a M3 Infrared Scope?

I just picked up an Inland that appears to be correct with the exception of possibly the stock, rear sight and slide. The serial number is 3,034,2** and the barrel date is 11/43. It has a flat bolt and type 1 barrel band and push button safety. The rear sight is a flip sight, but it is marked with a square style S on the left side. Not sure if this is correct. The slide is a type 5 with the angle cut. Marked as Inland, but again, not sure if it is correct. The stock is an early I-cut highwood with RMC in the slingwell and a large CC cartouche on the right side. I thought that I read somewhere that Rock-Ola supplied stocks to Inland, but I'm thinking that the serial number is too high for this stock. The push button safety is unmarked and the remaining parts appear to be correctly marked for Inland. By the way, using a CMP gage, the muzzle is slightly less than zero.:yikes:
Any additional thoughts?

This tool has been available for several months on eBay and I haven't seen any mention of it here in the forum, so I am offering a preliminary report. I just bought one and so far I am very pleased. I have removed and replaced three (3) Type 1 sights with this tool with absolutely no problem whatsoever. One of these sights was drifted on with extreme effort and it came off, and a replacement installed, like butter.

The machining tolerances are very close in fit to the receiver - which is crucial to avoiding metal damage and the overal construction is beefier than I expected. Next to the very costly original GI unit, I think the force distribution in this unit is superior to anything else out there and at $30 delivered I couldn't help pulling the trigger. Operation is very simple and very fast. This tool will make sight adjustment at the range a snap. If there is a weak point it may be with the synthetic tip on the pusher bolt but it appears to be very tough material and I don't think I will wear it out in my lifetime. Anyway, this tool meets my requirements and expectations in every way and I will be fine tuning all of my rear sights with it at the range.

This is only my report based on limited use to date but I thought it might be useful to some who might be looking for a useful tool at a very reasonable price. I would welcome input from other users, pro or con. I have no personal nor financial interest in this sight tool nor in any entity that manufactures or distributes it. Semper Fi, ChipS

My 6.42M Inland came with a 2-44 Underwood Barrel when I purchased it. I understand that the Underwood barrel wouldn't have been used in the carbine's original 1944 or 1945 assembly. So in order to make my Inland more "correct", I would like to find a nice-condition Inland barrel that has a barrel date consistent with the carbine serial number. What range of barrel dates would be most likely to be correct for my receiver(within 2 or 3 months)? Any help here would be appreciated.

A buddy has been pestering me for a few months to sell him my Howa M1 carbine. He felt since I had 13 other ones, I had enough. I finally gave in, and with the cash proceeds bought a Ruger Blackhawk (in .30 carbine, of course). Might as well, as I have plenty of ammo. Anyway, the Blackhawk is a nice companion piece to the rifles. Has anyone out there experimented with reduced-power reloads of 30 carbine for use in pistols? I wouldn't try it in a rifle.

TIA

I went to a small show in town yesterday. Guns of the West comes once a year. When it opened at 09:00 a large crowd went right to the ammo tables. Fifty or sixty deep in a line out the back door. Guys buying 9mm, .40, and ,45 for double of what it was last summer. And seemed happy to get it.

Two guys had carbine ammo. Federal soft point at $22.95 for a box of 20. And some bandoleers of 120 rounds in stripper clips for $90. Neither would budge on the price. That's nuts.

Only one imported Inland, 3 million range, in the whole building. It was a beater with all late features. He had $875 on it and sold it for $850. No bayonets or M-3's. And of course no magazines.

For me at least, it was a bust. I left a donation at the wounded veterans exhibit and left.

My friend Colonel Stratton (Major at the time) purchased several weapons from the Marine Corps, this one a 7-43 Underwood, as you can see purchased in 1949 for $31.26! Only upgrade appears to be the adjustable sight, muzzle just a tick over 1.0, original stock with cartouche and 'S-HB/flaming bomb' in sling well. In a senior moment I shot a four round 2 MOA today. He was a Camp Perry shooter, perhaps he picked this carbine for a reason. Thought you might enjoy. Semper Fi, Don

I stand corrected. While the barrel is a 7-43 Underwood the receiver/SN is Standard Products. Thanks Tuna from the CSP forum.

Need help. What am I looking at...IBM w/ Ser.# deeply and sharply cut into stock...

I collect WW2 pistols, but don't own any WW2 rifles, and don't have any collector knowledge or books about them at all.

Stopped at a pawn shop today-took a break from work. Pawn shop has typical "guns" sign, and have driven by this place about 200 times, always telling myself that I should stop. Never did, until today (Mon 4/23).

Looked at an M1 Carbine, IBM, Ser#3883132, was rough, but didn't seem to have been abused, no rust, no pits. What caught my eye was that the shoulder stock had the same serial number cut deeply and sharply cut into it, numbers were about 5/8" tall, and also had some numbers and an "X" painted onto the butt plate . The gun did not have any significant bluing, had browned. It looked to be all there, except the rear sight had been drifted clean out, but was taped to the trigger guard in a small plastic bag.
They wanted $800 for the piece.

Can someone give me any collector info on this weapon, as to year of manufacture, meaning or significance of the Ser# on the stock, what marks etc. should I be looking for, and a ballpark figure as to value.

If necessary, I could go back and try to get some photos,
but would appreciate some feedback first.

Thanks

Recently noticed a comment and pictures by "ric hntr" in a thread regarding a Winchester carbine describing gray paint on the rear sight, portion of the thread is attached.

Was interesting to me as I have a Win in the 6.54 mil range that has the same areas of paint and the gun appears to probably be original with very little usage. The pictures he has posted of the rear sight could have been of mine as the paint locations etc. are so similiar.

Have searched this subject without finding anything beyond his post and was wondering if anyone can shed light on why Winchester would have put paint on the sight in those areas and did any other manufactures do it as well.
My Items for Sale WRA Carbine in the 5.4 range...
Nice carbine. I think it is correct. The first adjustable rear sites WRA used were stamped and marked "H" in a shield. Also, If there is any flat grey paint on the rear site, It is a WRA trait.
Although early for this rear site change, this carbine might have been sitting around and a stamped rear site was added before it went out.

See photos for Stamped rear site with some grey paint as used by WRA at about that time period.

At What SN Were Late Inlands Ready for the M2 Parts?

I've often wondered when the late Inland carbines were manufactured with the slide, hammer, trigger, etc. that were compatible with military field conversion to full auto by the addition of M2 parts? Was it after SN 7 million? Or did it happen in the 6 million to 7 million range? Also what was the slide and hammer type when it was compatible? Lastly, do Inlands that have those later M1 parts bring a premium on the market? Reason I ask is I have a 6.4 million Inland, that I may sell or trade for an early carbine.

Had a nice surprise this week. I was talking to my neighbor and discovered he has several carbines and is a carbine nut. If I understood him, he has an original M1A1 that he registered as an assault rifle under the 2000 Kalifornication law, rather than change it out.

I made arrangements to have a show and tell session this next week with our carbines. A couple days ago, he gave me two full boxes of 1943 Kings Mill carbine ammo in the original boxes for my WW II display in the den. Great addition for my 11-43 Inland! He may be willing to sell a few boxes, if anyone is interested. He is a quiet guy, and not an internet auction guy. I'll post some pictures.
