Hi guys,

I have a Deactivated 1942 Enfield made Bren Mk1. I took the recoil spring out of it on Sunday, as I wanted to see how the stock came off as I was thinking of putting a finish on it. The recoil spring was covered in grease, so I cleaned it over Monday and Tuesday, and then I oiled it yesterday afternoon. I put the stock and spring back into the Bren and screwed the cap onto the spring. I cocked it once, and it didn't feel quite right, but I think that was just the recoil spring aligning. I cocked it a second time and fired off the action, fine. I did it a third time without a problem. I then tried to cock it a fourth time, and I couldn't cock it. It was jammed. I stripped the Bren, and the first thing that I noticed was that the Bolt and Carrier didn't slide out of the receiver. I tried to move them out, pull them out, push them out, but they wouldn't come out, there's about 2cm of play back and forth. I've been pushing and pulling the parts over and over again. I've sprayed a lot of oil into the working parts in a hope that it may dislodge any obstruction. The problem is that the bolt is not sliding down below the raised part of the receiver, the mag well effectively. It is just ramming itself into the metal, and not lifting itself at all. I think something must be obstructing the travel of the bolt on its tracks, on the carrier. I did a Google search and could not find anything like this, I contacted a workshop who said they had never seen anything like it and I contacted the dealer who said he would have a look at a few of his Brens to see if he could come up with a solution. I was wondering if this problem had happened to any one else? and if any one here can help.

Thanks.

Does anyone out there in Forumland have details of the slight modification used in Canada/Canadian Army Brens body/feed ramps to enable it to properly feed short/crimped nose blank correctly from the magazines specially spaced to accept the short blank?

It is in the Canadian EMER's and I know it was done because we had the EMER at the big joint Base workshop at Wetter/Germany where many og these guns were modified. Canada used these BFA Brens for many years in BAOR after we'd gone to L4's and they were using L2 rifles

I have the EMER here but can't seem to find it!

Hi,

I'm just starting to learn a new (to me) Bren. It's a remanufactured transferable full auto Inglis Mk1*.

The issue I'm having is rimlock as the magazine is feeding the rounds while firing. I've tried HXP reloads, S&B reloads, and old Brit surplus .303. I very carefully load the mags to make sure I don't lock the rims during loading. I've also tried a few different magazines.

I've found that the gun needs to be on gas setting 3 to run if that might indicate a related issue.

Any tips on what I should start looking at to resolve this?

Thanks!

Matt

A while back, there was a thread on BREN/ LMG Ammo pouches.

For your perusal, & Interest. I have posted some pics for you Guys.
Hope they are of some use?

Before anyone asks, NO, they are NOT for Sale!....:D

I finally dug out the Auxillury Pouches I have for the 7.62mm Mags.
Typical Tan cotton material, the same as the Rifle Bandolier versions. Dated 1960 & the usual ME Co manufacturer.
Each pouch will hold TWO 30 round mags. There are twin tie straps at the bottom of each pouch to secure. Presumably, to the two pouches ,universal. Worn with the normal combat webbing sets.

I have never encountered these in service myself personaly. But that dosent mean they were not held in War Reserve stocks of ammo.

Peter, have you ever seen/Used/ Encountered these Mate?

Hi, What is the correct bipod for a Mark 3 Bren dated 1959? The one attached currently has non adjustable legs and most of the components are marked JI / RFI - which I think is a Canadian / Indian hybrid. Is this the right bipod, or should it be a British Mark 1 bipod with the adjustable legs? If the bipod should be British, can I swap out the legs or lower components (where can I obtain a new bipod) as the main connection is fixed to the barrel (a deactivated Bren). Thanks for any advice and contacts.

As far as I could find this could be a Czech made box, and has the pre war deep bronze green paint?

So is this indeed a Czech made Bren box? And if its british paint, why isn't it completly marked with Box Magazines Bren .303 inch MkI?

Any information about this box would be great! (The only other markings I could find is on the bottom, ''A Coy'', so that doesnt help much...)

Apologies to the Bren purists for posting about the lowly sten in your section, but there is no sten section, and this is about as close to the sten subject as I can find on the milsurps forum. If this offends the moderators, please feel free to move it to wherever it is better suited.

I was recently adjusting the pop rivets on a bunch of sten magazines I have, to take them from zero rounds, where they had been pinned, to 5 rounds, which is the current legal limit for these mags here in Canada. But one magazine I had did not act like the others. It looked slightly different....a little more rounded on the edges. It was the "seamless" type of magazine body which is somewhat common amongst British made mags, and you can just make out the weld on the one side where the metal was fused together. The spring would not pull out until I removed the rivet from the mag body onto the platform. (note for legal reasons, I leapfrog the platform so that I do not have a fully functional magazine, which would be very illegal in this country). Once I got the platform with spring out, the reason was obvious.....the mag had a plastic/nylon type platform.

I could find no markings on the platform, but on the body was a small C/l\, but not in the usual spot where they are normally found on either the Kalvinator of Canada or on the LongBranch marked mags. They usually have the C-broadarrow about 1/4" from the top front edge of the magazine....this mag has it about 1/2 from the bottom leading edge.

So has anyone else ever seen a sten mag of this type? The platform shows a slight nick where it hits against the forward edge of the magazine lip....perhaps this led to a problem of wear and this style magazine did not continue in production.

my bren chews the brass
I never really paid attention before I started reloading for it.
what I have observed is the brass hits hard into the recess above and forward of the trigger guard so hard that the case mouth is crushed. I stuck a bit of rubber there as a pad and after 60 rounds it was chewed through. I have watched video's of other brenguns and the brass seems to gracefully fall out but mine flings them out with gusto. is there a cure for this?
its a monotype Mk2 but it has a JI bolt. the HS is in spec.
It ruins the cases with the queens ammo as well as colonial ammo and my home made ammo
to be fair its ruining 1 in 5 the other 4 are salvageable

thanks
