Help with M1917 Bayo - real or repro?sdzdz

Hi all. I recently purchased a nice Eddystone. My buddy had an old M1917 bayo and scabbard that he sold to me for short money. He wanted it to go to a nice home and thought it would look great with my rifle (it does). He told me that he believed the bayo and scabbard to be original. He recalled purchasing two about 20 years ago - he kept one his 1917. I looked up the bayo in the Northcape book and I am unsure if it is real or repro. Any help in determining if it is real or repro would be great. Either way, I am not going to be dissappointed.

I think it's ok. The C broad arrow's a nice touch. Canadian issue, not uncommon. The grip slabs are a bit overhanging so you can be sure they haven't been sanded or messed with. They often looked like that too. Looks like the scabbard was a converted UK or CDN model, done for need. Unless it's been done after but I can't tell from here. The frog stud was cut off and the US models didn't have them at all. Good blade, be happy.

The bayonet appears to be an original Remington produced one. It is marked as being in Canadian service. The scabbard was a British model 1907 that has been modified by the Danes to use the U.S M1910 belt hooks. All in all an interesting example. I wish I had found it!

Twenty years ago (if your friend was right about when he baught it) these bayonets with the US 2nd Pattern scabbard like this one were common and selling for about $15. No reason for anyone to make repops back then - it is beyond the shadow of a doubt real. The scabbard is a US scabbard and the Canadian Property Mark is very hard to find on a M1917 bayonet.

Agree the Canadian Arsenal stamping. The scabbard is probably US Army and not Danish. The US belt fitting was issued to the UK Home Guard. usually with a leather frog.
I have a Home Guard Winchester P13 bayonet. The scabbard is stamped Jewell 1918.
Your Remington bayonet is genuine, my Remington is the same date and stamping. With no oil/clearing hole.
Word of warning for inexperienced collectors. I purchased this 1917 Remington P13 bayonet in a mint scabbard and assured it was in the factory grease.For £35.00. When I got home and cleaned the grease off. I found the blade was severely pitted. Tried wire brushing, emery cloth and put it on my polishing wheel. It is very bright but pitted to hell. Not being mint enables me to prune the bushes in the garden with it! They are a tough bit of kit. Kind regards to all, Lester
