1944 M2 Compass
Every once in a while, if a person keeps tabs, you can score a deal on Ebay.
I spotted this WW2 1944 M2 compass made by William Ainsworth and Sons in Denver Colorado in a listing posted up by a secondhand dealer on the East Coast.......with a "buy it now" price of $20.00!!!!! I about broke the keyboard hitting the "buy" button. Usually these are in the range of $100-$150 and are rarely in as good of shape as this one. Another bonus is that this one came with the original felt lined M-19 carrying case which by itself is worth more than $20.

Mils:
Another unit of measure, the radian, is used mainly by militaries in artillery, tank, and mortar gunnery.
There are 2 PI radians in a circle. PI is a constant of approximately 3.1416. That is 2 * 3.1416, or 6.283 radians. Divide each radian into 1000 mil-radians and you see there are 6283 mil-radians in a circle. Mil-radians are called mils for short.

Just like an geological or archaeological Brunton compass, but not 360 degrees. Our military maps were in mils. A new Brunton runs $400 +. You got a deal of the year!
