Incidentally, it is not necessary to disassemble the bolt to place it in the dangerous condition. It can be done by pulling the bolthead foreward and twisting - which might happen if someone were trying to get the head in the horizontal position. It is also possible to reset the bolt correctly without disassembly.
Was it the Brits who came up with the rivet modification? Rifles retained for service in Canada were so altered.
