inland philppines receivers imported federal ordnance

carbine bug has hit me i picked up a inland carbine that became very confusing,the barell has no marks on the outside of it. on the inside behind the gas piston on the flat marked IO and some stamping number. gauged ex shoots 1/1/2 groups at 100 yards off rest. the receiver is inland when i cleaned it i found a faint federal ordnance stamped on side of receiver.i was very confused,found a carbine site that told that fed. ord. got 300 inland receivers from the phlippines sold some guns using the inland,sold rest to sarco for people to buy to build there own guns.m2 stock adg sights number 3 band all mil. parts any info are comments welcome.

It's possible the barrel might have been turned down on a lathe to remove markings. The Riesch book says it should measure close to .600" diameter an inch or so behind the front sight, where the manufacturer's marks are usually found. If very much was removed, it would probably make the Type 3 band fit pretty loose. Just an idea you might check until someone else answers. - Bob

Can you post pics of these markings ? What is the serial number on the receiver ? Can you post a pic of the right handside of the trigger housing ? From which site did you get your info ? I have been doing some research into the Phillipino Carbines myself, as a result of going out to dinner with a female firearms instructor in their Army a couple of years back. Was prepared to "not go home" that night in order to find out more, for the benefit of the Club, but it didn't work out that way as her sister was there too ! I did however learn some useful stuff. Jim Mock knows a lot about what some of those import companies did. Don't forget third parties often try to minimise or obscure import marks. Pics would help us help you. i got the info from here Federal Ordnance M1 Carbine i will put up pic. if i can i never have on this site.if you will read the story fed ord got 300 inland receivers by mistake and the owner was on a trip. never new the shop foreman build the carbines and sold them. the carbine is all us mililtry parts the barrel is the mystry with the I0 on bottom of flat. the inland recivers numbers 675xxx the story makes for a special carbine for me anyway.

You need to speak with Jim Mock... Bavariancarbines.com or M1carbinesinc.com. I have a similar receiver. Except that I built and scoped
a shooter carbine on it myself. I used all USGI parts except a Weaver K4 scope, Leupold dovetail mount and medium rings. Stock is high wood, I cut unmarked walnut USGI clone... possibly from Overton's 60's-70's vintage run. These receivers came in with a load of Garand parts and all were in rough shape. Mine was reparked at some point and has some wastage where deep hole drilling for recoil spring almost broke thru during manufacture. Don't know if it came from Sarco or Numerich but it was imported by Fed Ord S Elmonte CA.

A friend just picked up a Saginaw carbine with an Inland barrel that has no markings anywhere except for the typical Inland markings on the gas cylinder assembly. He checked the diameter and found it to be .600" - so probably the markings weren't machined off. I noticed that the bore had a "funny" look - rifling was different or something. I did some research last night on M1CarbinesInc.com - read about the Federal Ordnance and National Ordance carbines. Especially interesting was the section on the use of the '03 Springfield barrels. We took another look at it today, and that's what he's got - an Inland barrel that has been machined out to take a turned down '03 barrel. That accounts for the OD of the barrel being correct, but with no visible markings. We didn't see any import marks anywhere on the barrel or receiver, but did notice a welded repair only on the left side of the receiver. I think this gun was probably done by National Ordnance. The stock looks like WWII military, but with no markings - and has a completely plain buttplate. Fungun1 may have an '03 barrel on his carbine. I don't know if these are common or not, but can sure fake you out! - Bob

i must have got lucky on the inland receiver,i can,t find and welding or pitting.the carbine gods must have liked me.from what i have read most were pretty bad.

FWIW:
Another possible explaination for the missing markings might be very aggressive rust removal techniques used by US or allied field repair units.
Both Earnie Pyle's books and old Yank magazines discribed things like chucking up a GI jointed rod with a brush attached to buzz the rust out of Garand barrels. The exposed metal of miltary guns can be exposed to a lot of very corrosive substances : salt water mud , vomit , whatever. It's not about neglect . For example , guns and gear can be left outside of an aid station for long periods of time when the medics are really busy.
I have some Garand and Carbine parts that appear to be consistant with selective spot rust removal that removed tool marks and/or factory markings on relatively smal areas . The metal might have been removed with wire brushs or maybe even a band sander. The parts appear to have been arsenal re-parked after the field salvage treatment.

Of course , I wouldn't pay money for that story at gun show .
