Swede with Walnut Stock
Picked up a nice 1896 Swede with a walnut stock at a gun show yesterday. Most all Swedes I've run across have beech stocks on them. When did the use of walnut cease?

M96 stockwood
You have a very fine example there!
All French walnut up to 1915, when WW1 stopped deliveries. After that , the factory tried several woods - red beech, maple, elm, also some walnut imported from the USA. From 1917 on, red beech became standard. So a pre-1915 rifles with a non-walnut stock is carrying a replacement stock.
