SAFN range video
Yeah... I've already spammed this on CGN and CGS...
I took my Egyptian contract SAFN 49 out to the range yesterday and shot some video that I edited yesterday night. The sequence includes some super-spiffy slow-motion footage of the action cycling...
Enjoy!

If you liked that, stay tuned. I have some M1 Carbine footage I'm going to mess with

The SAFN 49 is a "sleeper" as to its value as a major battle rifle. It was the immediate predecessor of the FN FAL and is its equivalent as to accuracy and really superior as to finish as well as being still in a "conventional stock". I had one in 30'06 about 30 years ago bought from International Arms for the amazing sum of $125.00. I used it for moose hunting in NW Ontario as well as some long distance plinking at 200-300 metres. One addition was to thread the issue peep to have it accept Lyman peep sight discs which dramatically improved the level of sighting and resultant groups.
What I really like about this rifle is its "simplicity" compared to another great rifle the M-1 Garand..the best of 1932-39 technology once the gas trap Garands were converted. Try disassembling both rifles together.
It is very robust as well as superbly machined and assembled.
The SAFN 49 (best of 1949 technology by Eugene Saive (sp) John Brownings student is a seminal development in firearms. Currently in my opinion it is "undervalued". Several years ago I obtained an NRA Excellent 8mm Egyptian issue with the sniper scope dovetails for $500.00. I have had it thoroughly checked over by a gunsmith and plan to do some SR shooting with it. My gunsmith Mr Kevin Keon of Edmonton make up a special barrel mount for an extended eye relief scope so as to not interfere with the clip loading with five shot stripper clips. When I obtain some quality 8mm match ammo or get around to assembling some quality handloads I will post some pics here.
As before the SAFN 49 is a "sleeper" in mil-surp terms. Get em while You can eh!
