I ran accross some berdan primed .223 brass(5.56) that was headstamped 87 on one side and 13 on the other.

Sounds like this stuff, but a year newer.
"Concerning South African ammo. I got stuck with some 300 round battle packs that were marked , "5.56 X 45 mm, BALL M1A3 – 378 A86. Head stamp "86" at 12 o-clock, and "13" at 6 o-clock. I would be afraid to give them away because of the potential liability. Very dirty, with many recessed primers that would not fire."
