Thanks guys. I'm going to try to stop by there tomorrow with my camera and snap some pictures. I couldn't buy it until the bank opens on Monday anyway. We can get the muzzle erosion checked at the local gunsmith, but I'm not sure if he has a Garand specific throat gauge. Stay tuned, if I get the pictures of it field stripped I'll post tomorrow.

Pictures
I snapped some pictures today. The owner wasn't there again so I didn't get a look at the paperwork. I forgot to add, it comes with a sling and 4 and a half boxes of match ammo. He kept saying DCM, but it's wearing a CMP circle cartouche on the heel of the stock, so I would guess the paperwork will be CMP and not DCM. I recalled incorrectly on the s/n range. It's actually a 1.65 gun. The leather sling that is apparently important for match shooting, and is old and in good shape. It's soft like an old leather chair. The overall pic didn't come out good, I think I forgot to take the camera off of Macro.

It's only my opinion but I would pass, it's not worth what the seller wants from what you have provided. Good luck and thanks for sharing your quest.

I'm with sarge, pass it up. Just not enough evidence to support the claims. I also find it strange that you've went in to look at twice and the supposed DCM/CMP paperwork was absent both times. Anyone selling an M1, Carbine or '03 as a DCM/CMP sales rifle should keep the paperwork(if it even exists) with the gun at all times to proove that claim.

Gotcha. Thanks for the advice guys. How is the quality of the service grade guns coming from the CMP now? I may order a service grade from there for $625. How do you think it would stack up to what I'm seeing here? I've heard that they're very nice shooters, but it's luck of the draw as to how they look. Have any of you seen one of their current offerings, and were you impressed? Thanks.

They still have the H&Rs don't they? I looks like they are still available on the website. I'm not set on any particular manufacturer.

Ditto what Sarge and Vintage said on this one.

Thanks guys. I've got my CMP paperwork notarized to drop in the mail tomorrow for a service grade HRA. It's going to be a long 6 weeks, the anticipation is killing me.
The CMP has ammo so I'm going to pick up 1,000rd, but they don't have any clips to go with it. Does anybody know of a good source for 50 or 100 of the GI enbloc clips, and are any of the aftermarket ones any good, or are they all inferior to the GI ones? I've read in some other threads about people having problems with them, but are there any aftermarket ones that stand up to the GI clips?

You just need to look a little closer on the CMP sales page, Sales, Accessories, scroll to the bottom of the page for en blocs.
