Hello,
Not sure if you receive my newsletter (you sign up on the website).
If anyone is interested in writing an article about anything Mosin, I will host it. The author retains all rights to it, and the only thing I would do is format it for HTML and maybe proofread it.
The sabot sounds interesting.

I don't see what you mean about it not being possible to use the sling as a shooting aid? Its just a 2-point military sling, pretty much the same as everyone else used in the West. If you look in the technical articles section of the Knowledge Library, find the one called Shoot to Live. Its a Canadian manual for marksmanship instructors on how to train recruits in shooting prone with a 2-point webbing sling.
Or, if you're impatient, here is a photo of me shooting my M91/30, which I may have posted before:

You just put the sling on as normal, push your arm through the gap between it and the rifle, twist your arm around to the outside, bring it up and grasp the rifle. You want the sling adjusted until its nice and firm.
The problem with shooting Mosin-Nagants (particularly the longer ones) with a sling attached is that the pressure from the sling bends the thin, flimsy forend really easily. Most people avoid it, as the contact with the barrel outweighs the benefit of the extra stability.
Hello,
This is why I suggest putting the front dog collar around the area right in front of the rear sight.

I recently bought a 91/30 and attached the sling. I removed the sling from the butt of the rifle and tried to use it like a regular M1907 or M1 sling. Turned it to the left and inserted my arm through the loop and adjusted as needed.
