I hope it doesn't get silly.
Whats the deal with parker hiscock magzines? is it a feeding mag so you can use your .22 trainer as a repeater?
Sorry Badger,
I only just learned how to post pix, no idea how to add links, just trying to make the members aware of items so they dont miss out.
Is there a tutorial for posting links and quotes?
No problem partner ... :)
Look at the top of the forum within the "sticky" thread area and you'll see several global help threads that will answer all your questions about posting pics.
Also, when you are creating or replying to a post, you will see a bar with icons across the top of the white space you are typing in. One of those looks like a blue globe with a chain link superimposed on it. Hold your mouse over it and it will say "Insert Link". If you click on that icon with your cursor located within your post where you want to place an external link, it will step you through a series of prompts on how to do that.
Another and simpler way to put a link in your post is to simply cut-n-paste the link as shown in your Internet browser bar for the site you want to point to. Cut it from the site and place it in your post with the paste command.
Hope that help ...

Here's the site, I couldn't find the WW1 sniper rifle mentioned, but if you scroll down there is a good few nice enfields there, with nice prices. Anyone for a $1200 jungle carb?

Go to 'what's new'
Repeat Question. what is the parker Hiscock magazine is it a .22 repeating method which can be used on any No.2 rifle or is it specific to certain rifles?
They were used in the earlier conversions. They were made during WWI. Introduced in 1915 for the R.F. rifle mkIII. But it can be used with other rifles.

Has anyone made an insert for a No.1 Mk3 mag from and existing available .22 magazine that feeds reliably? If so what were the details and process please?
Newcastle,
Click on link below and scroll down to see how the magazine worked.

Thats pretty cool. I emaile dthe Seller and he said sending to teh USA would be too much hassle with permits etc whihc is a blow. So I'll have to make my own I guess, which brings me back to the question : Has anyone actually made a functioning .22LR magazine for a NO.2 rifle by using an existing 22LR mag fitted inside the shell of the magazine?
It annoys me when sellers don't have the courage to put a price on an item and ask for offers. They're too scared of falling a dollar short if they make a mistake.
The No7 (not CNo7) magazine was manufactured from a No1 magazine with a BSA 'sporter 5' .22 magazine as an insert. As you know the No7 was a No4 derivative but the principle could no doubt be applied to a No1 based rifle (No2 Mk4*)
The problem would be getting the No2 bolt head to 'pick up' and chamber the .22 cartridge.
The No7 had a totally redesigned and radically different bolt head to achieve this.
So - to answer your question - YES a No1 magazine has been modified to fit a .22rf cartridge but I know of no examples of where it has been fitted (or worked) in a No2

Just for your information.
Spoke today with the seller. He is located 30 minutes drive East from my offices.
The Parker Hiscock mag sold earlier today for $900.00 Aussie to a local collector.
That equates to $930 USD, $921 CAD, $1,133 NZD and 564 GBP. Way beyond my budget!!
Seller explained that under our very restrictive Western Australian State Laws, as a Licenced Firearms Dealer, he now has to apply for an export permit from Austrlian Customers to export a firearms part. He also has to record in his sales of both firearms and firearms parts in his register.
Cheers
Paul

Hmm it seems on the face of it like it should be simple to engineer something. I'm at the Reno gun show this weekend, I'll try to buy a couple of 5 round .22LR mags and see what can be cobbled together heath robinson / mcgyver styley whihc may stand a chance of working.
Getting a mag to work would be part of it but I think you'd need to make a new extractor that grips the cartridge tighter than the standard one in a No.2 rifle. Then there's ejection to think about...
I found a mag that fits inside a NO.1 Mag shell. I'm toying with the idea of trimming the fron edge of the insert mag and having an extended follower so that as the shell is pushed up and into the chamber the follower is then pushed down below the bolt head as it slides forward. This might then also act as an ejection device??? Wife away this weekend and will have some time in the man cave to tinker. Watch this space.
I wouldn't keep looking martins. I was following the thread too, wondering what orbitory planet a lot of the contributors were living on. Do you REALLY think that the mechanism of the BSA No7 would have been so mechanically complicated and expensive if such a project were so simple? Nope, me neither
Bit of a time warp thing like 23-08-2011 was newcastles post so where did the thread go for 4 years...............:dunno:. guess the mag is long gone??????????
Hello there. Yes it was a bust - exactly as Peter predicted but IIRC it was fun tinkering for a few hours.
