How to remove no4 Mk 1/2 bolt when PH 5c sight is installed.

Hi there.
Really enjoying reading all the combined knowledge.
I have just purchased a beautifully presented Fulton Regulated no4 Mk 1/2.
It has a Parker Hale 5c sight installed. It also has the micrometer sight installed in the flat position under the 5c sight.
My question is how do I remove the bolt with the PH 5c sight installed? It seems to jam when trying to slide the bolt back out of the action.

Depress the lever/button on the front of the sight and slide up the windarm.

The original flip sight should have been removed when the 5C is installed.

The 5C mounts using the pivot-hole of the original sight so I cannot see that you could mount it properly with the original sight in place - all you could do would be to use a bolt all the way thru, and dispense with the tilt (spring and ball bearing) mechanism.
The mounting lug on the 5C is (normally ?) threaded so you need to bolt thru from the 'inside' of the action.

If you have a bolt that goes all the way thru both pivot points you have to be very careful not to over tighten as you can pull the sides of the action in and trap the bolt (ask me how I know !!). The correct way to use a 'thru bolt' is to have a lock nut on the inside of the LH side pivot point to clamp the 5C against, (which means the original sight MUST be removed) or remove the original sight and use a short bolt thru the LH side pivot point only (which means the original sight MUST be removed)

You can mount a 5C over a Mk1 sight - although you have to grind the battle sight off, and also have to choose a 5C eyepiece that wont foul the sight at low elevation settings (or use an elevated foresight block to compensate).

The Mk1 sight acts as a rigid spacer that prevents a through-bolt from being over tightened.

This set-up works well for those who have just one rifle but want to shoot SRa and SRb events.

In fact on an Enforcer with an offset 5E4 sight, you can have Mk1 sight, tgt sight and scope all fitted together!

I cannot quite see how that works as the Enforcer Scope mount (PH 21 Base) actually fits into the exact position of the MK1 sight, uses the same mounting points and fits up inside the Charger bridge recess.

It's not common here to leave the service sight on as well (not least because you cant remove the bolt). Usually you take it off and store it somewhere.

It requires a bodge, but actually works well - if you really want to do it for some reason. Briefly, you alter a Mk1 sight to mimic the shape of the PH21.

You grind a chamfer on the rear edges of the Mk1 sight, just the portion thats exposed when the slider is down at 200. This gives you about the same mounting space as a PH21. So long as you don't touch the edges of the front face of the sight, the slider continues to work perfectly well. You don't need to produce a full dovetail, as the PH scope mounts will grip anything that fits inside the claws.

One of my Enforcers came in with such a mod, apparently done whilst in service with the police. I'll dig around and see if I've still got the sight for a photo.

Seems a bit of a faff, personally I cannot see why you'd want to have 3 sighting options.

Does the recoil 'nipple' on the bottom of the rings not foul on the Mk1 sight ?
Obviously the PH21 has the recess to take it.

Thanks Thunderbox. That appears to be the way the PH 5c was installed. The battle sight has been ground off leaving the micrometer sight in place.
Is there any way to remove the bolt with this configuration?

Remove the 5C 'slider' (the vertical adustment) by loosening the retaining screw, press the screw inwards, hold it in & and then slide the arm upwards. Raise the original sight up to the vertical, the bolt should slide out beneath the 'vertical' original sight.
