I recently acquired a 1916 LSA No.2 Trainer. It came with adjustable receiver-mounted rear sights marked with the broad arrow and the sight is obviously of the same vintage as the rifle. The only other marking on the sight are the initials H.W.C. I would appreciate it if anyone could shed some light on this sight. By the way, the rifle is a fine shooter and I got it at a gun show for about a third of what I see L/E .22s going for on GB. Thanks for any help you can give.
H.W.C. is Hugh W. Cooey of Canada. Cooey made one of the rear sights for the Mk. III 1910 Ross. The sight was also used with a secondary base for the SMLE. See any of Skennerton's books for a picture. If not the same, it might be another base, but the sight arm was made by Cooey.

Thanks to Warren and Lance! That is precisely the sight and is described and pictured in Skennerton (page 297). I realized after reading your response that the armorer's mark is a broad arrow in a 'C', indicating Canada. I will examine the rifle tonight to see if there are any other Canadian ownership marks. Go careful with those altered Ross sights, they are easily damaged.
