Garand NM rear sight problem
First off the rifle we're talking about is a match rifle I built some 3 years ago.
Front and rear sight are NM, Kreiger barrel and the fixings.
Well now I was testing some different loads and while doing so I discovered
that the rear sight is bottomed out for shooting at 100yds, can't believe I
never noticed that. The load I've been shooting the last 3 years is fine, I hold half moon sight picture on the target and have been shooting expert
scores the last two years.
Now with another load I need to come down a few clicks but can't. The
aperature has been modified and does not hit in the receiver well. Whats
stopping it is the aperature hood hits in the sight base cut out, won't
let it go down any more. Would like to have a few clicks of downward adjustment at 100 yds if possible.
Anyone ever run into this problem with a NM sight group ?
Thought about taking the base to a machinist and milling the radius down
a little more, would like to avoid doing that if possible.
Any ideas & thoughts welcome > > > thanks :banghead:
Holy Brain Fart Batman ! ! !
Thanks for the posts/replys fellas. I found the problem, I didn't have the actual NM .62 front sight on the rifle. I had one I modified to a thickness
of .40 and it's a full 1/16th shorter than the NM sight post.
Dummy me :bash:
