M1A NM i.d. help
Hi i'm new to the forum and was wondering if any of the experts on here could weigh in on a national match i looked at today. The stock was a bit different than most i've seen. The wood rather than have the flat look, had a shiney finish. There was a circle "P" on the bottom similiar to what I see on 1903's. The side of the barrel viewable with the bolt open had a P mark in it. The top of the barrel had NM, which i expected. The serial number is in the 074XXX range. Are they all normal for this model/vintage? Any idea what year this might have come out? Thanks for the help!

Give Springfield Armory Inc. a call to see how it left the factory.
I recently learned from them that my rear lugged match rifle was built up in Columbus, Ga. by calling Springfield Inc. Apparently one of the old AMU armorers set up shop near Ft. Benning and did sub-contract work for the factory as well as building rifles on his own (w/ several full time employees). Name escapes me at the moment- but that's normal for me- I'll remember in a bit.

That's him! I did the look up after getting the Springfield info, but it all ran out my ears. It ought to be written down somewhere...but I'm too much working lately to dig out much of anything. (Junk spread out over three counties!)
They didn't specify how many were done, just that they were limited runs.
Never had one of his rifles before, but a few of "Hook" Boutin's- they're most excellent!

You mean this Ol' Hook  He is a national treasure. I have had him work on many of my M1's and M1A's. I am fortunate enough to call him a friend.
