M1888 Trapdoor Getting Better
Here is my 3rd time at the range with the trapdoor. Was using the 300gr rounds that I loaded and have worked well previously. I'm still pulling to the right but not as bad as I'm getting more familiar with that 7-1/4 pound trigger. Those marked rounds are from my 44 mag Winchester 94 which has been giving me fits lately. It more patterns than groups.
Installed the high front sight from S & S and it did what you see using the peep rear sight set at its minimum 200 yd distance and a 6 o'clock hold as I marked. A lot better than aiming at the bottom of the target and hitting the same spot. The low round is with the battle sight dead on so the elevation issue is solved. 7 rounds out and this is what it looks like now. I'm going to copy the profile of the original sight onto it and grind it to shape. Cold blue it reinstall and practice that trigger with snap caps. I hope to make a better showing next time out as I've removed all my previous excuses. Need to load more rounds now!
Edit, the 2 stacked rounds were shots 1 & 2 so the rifles potential is obvious, I'm the problem.

rear sight for trapdoor rifle
Years ago some shooters use to attach the rear tang sights that were manufactured for the Savage 99 lever action rifle. I believe there is even a reproduction Savage 99 tang sight available now that is not as much as the original. You do not have to alter your trapdoor to attach the Savage 99 tang sight which also provides a better sight for target shootingAttachment 126496
