Mauser Model 45a

Good day gentlemen! This new forum take a little getting used to but it should be a nice new home for csp. Any way, I was wondering if any of you knowledgeable folks would have any information on a Mauser model 45a .22 long rifle. The rifle in question is in a sportster stock, has a sportster type ramped front site and appears to be in a parkerized finish. The rifle is magazine fed ( 5 shot mag?). The trigger guard has a checkering on the bottom. The reciever ring is marked with the Mauser banner logo and beneath this is model 45a. The barrel is marked with I believe 22 patrone long rifle. The rear sight is located on the rear of the receiver and is a tangent sight graduated to 200m. The tangent sight has a peep apeture instead of the v-notch for sighting. I do not have this rifle, so no pictures are availible. I saw this in my local gun shop today and was curious about it. It appears to be a very substantial and nicely made 22 rifle. I am an 03 and garand guy and don't know much about the 22 mausers. Any help would be appreciated! Ps the guy had a price of $450 on it. That does not sound out of the ballpark to me? The 45a was the last trainer of Mauser Company design. The French took over the Mauser factory and aked Dr. Harnisch if the remaining Mauser techs could design a training rifle. The rifle you are looking at must be a very early production using a receiver left from German production before wars end. Later ones are marked MAS on the rec. These were imported some time ago by Navy Arms, about 1986, purchased mine in June 86 and it has no import stamp. Sold for 135 bucks with 2 xtra mags. Few I have seen sell in the 350 range but with Mauser logo may be worth a 'lil more? Most I have seen are in new unused condition. Very early ones were blued. I have a note that Navy Arms sales rep told me they only imported 2000, but more may have come in later.

Mine is a MAS marked rifle. there was also a transition rifle with both markings on the receiver, Mauser Mod.45 and MAS.
I've never shot mine as it appears to be unfired. Others report that they shoot a bit high. It is a nice collectible and should look like the one I have except for stock color. Some may have darker wood.

15,000 produced at Oberndorf until 6/46 and then an unknown quantity of rifles made in France until 1947 using parts built in Germany. Kind of like a Winchester parts clean up operation. So the difference in years between a new one and old one isn't that great in years.

Mine shoots low so I put the slider on 150 to hit at 100, 6:00 hold.

I should have added that early ones used walnut wood for stocks, probably also 'left overs'. I have seen one with walnut. blue and Mauser logo but was very well used, but good condition. The guy wanted 600 for it. Just too much for me.

Thanks for the responses guys! The rifle looks the same as the middle rifle in n64atlas's picture. I am going to try my hand at posting a picture here so bear with me...It worked, although this is not the rifle inquestion. This is a little older M1855 springfield. I have one other question. I can't quite figure out how to resize images to take them down from the larger MB size to Kb size so that they can be posted. Thanks again!!! Phil
