If they had placed Rare sniper thingy on it surely thy would have doubled the price ala map reading sighting aid sold a sniper thingy on that site!:surrender:
Strange how all the real sniper CES kit being sold all seems to take the descriptions from this forum isn't it? I mean....., how many would have known that this bottle came from the Charlie G sub calibre kit!!!!! OR that the binos, compass and WWW were part of the CES supplementary issue
Peter,
Amazing how such an insignificant piece of non attributable Charlie G crap is to the L42A1, can make so much money.
I was about to embark in making a Carl Gustav for a demo piece when I saw loads of bits for sale on Flea Bay yesterday...............nothing ceases to amaze me from the past!!
................."now where did I park that time machine"??
Could it be that this site is acknowledged as the 'world leader' for Enfield related information, and that the people who post here actually know what they are talking about rather than some of the rubbish perpetuated on other sites.
If the source is acknowledged then I personally dont see it as a problem - indeed it could be seen as 'flattery' to be quoted - you are acknowledged as an 'expert'.
Sometimes the truth gets to people and at least here it is called as it is we all like to think our special piece is special like my '21 Lithgow probably sent the wrong message to the forum yes it was fired true but to the best of the previous owner and the original owner (Deceased) it had been unfired since the restock. And I was grateful in a sense that I can say with confidence that it had not been used since it had the fore woods replaced.
I do see here a collection of personnel who try to assist when and wherever they can from a standpoint of keeping things on the straight and narrow and such are the worlds laws that some suspect sellers cannot be taken to task over what they are purporting to be the real deal when it has been identified by the forum as a mix master of odds and sods.
To try and stop some poor sod from parting with their hard earned cash so that's my 5 cents worth I cannot say 2 cents worth as it is no longer legal tender anymore. :dancingbanana:
Interesting though how the brush/bottle was placed on the CES for the L42 anyway........what was wrong with the issue brush in the standard No 4 cleaning kit, unless someone thought the softer bristles would be good for the telescope and the bino's.
Someone will know the answer surely:lol:
This brush was specifically for the tele and binos because prior to its adoption, they were using the little black nylon brush (called the 'BRUSH, nylon, fierce') to clean the tele and bino lenses! Mind you, that's better than using scotchbrite as they seem to do on SUSAT lenses. The artists brush was kept separately, in the little convenient Charlie G sub cal pullthrough bottle to keep it away from any contaminants such as oil that you'd get in a cleaning kit tin. We used to clean the lens brush in clean methylated spirit if they got contaminated.
There were a couple of variants of the little colour coded (colour coded yellow for the grade of bristle softness....... I bet that little gem finds its way onto Ebay soon....., you mark my words!) brush used in the Instrument shops. There was a longer handled one and the short one.
Sold for the stunning amount of 570 pounds.
My little replacement will do until I hit the lotto.
I hope the person is really happy, as another person on that site I was dealing with about the sale of a brush that finally went for £50, said he supplied the guy with one to go in his bottle before the sale, and that he had loads of them in H&K marked bags, because they came with a H&K rifle. I was querying the crows foot on the shaft that I have never seen before on the real ones as they came unmarked and cut down from Charlie G Spare parts wallets??? and others who had the brushes had never experienced it either as recognisable UK MOD stamps, but I am sure there will be a story somewhere to counteract that thought!!
