Need help with Garand rear sight problem
Attachment 14526I could use some help with windage adjustment on my Garand. Either I'm totally confused (always a distinct possibility), or my rear sight has a problem. I finally took my HRA to the range yesterday to see how it shoots. Was shooting at 50 yds, trying to get it in the ball park for 100 yds. Unfortunately, I did not note the position of the windage adjustment before I fired the weapon
The first group I shot was about 2-3" high, and 4-5" right of center.
I adjusted the windage left 2 clicks, and the next group was approximately 5" left of center (Approximately a 10" total movement to the left)..
I next went right 1 click which only moved the group about 1" to the right (still about 4" left of center).
I then adjusted right 8 clicks which moved the group right about 3" right (still 1" to the left of center). At this point, I had my friend try and adjust the sight thinking I was having total brain fade. Still no luck.
Since I'm obviously not too knowledgible on Garands, I'm hoping one of you gents can offer suggestions as to the problem & solution. Is it just me, or do I have a mechanical problem with the sight? I certainly appreciate any help you can provide.
I attached a pic of the rear sight at the conclusion of my shooting which shows the position of the marker with the rifle still shooting 1" left of center at 50 yards.
Thanks in advance.
