Does 2400 powder have the look of tiny flat disks of powder grains?
This powder has apparently been reformulated at least 3 times since it was first made in the 1930's. I'm still working with a large batch manufactured by Hercules. It appears to me to be shaped like very small balled up sheets of paper.
There may have been a change in appearance when Alliant started making it.
My downstairs can of Alliant 2400 (Manuf'd Aug`05/Lot 733) has the look of almost being fine ball powder -- except close examination reveals the "balls" to actually be roughly spherical irregular granules.
Small disks, some stuck together.

Parashooter is right. When I got the camera out, the "roughly spherical" granules turned out to be more like itsy-bitsy pepperoni slices....
Thanks guys, that is what I have. The son of a deceased reloader gave me a can of 2400 that was his dad's but it had been opened. I wanted to make sure that it hadn't been filled with something else. I guess my eyes are better than I thought since I could make out the little disks of powder grains in the bright light!

you still shooting at A Place To Shoot? don't know if you remember me i bought a bunch of 30/06 mil cases from you about 5 or 6 years ago. you had them in that plastic detergent container. i usually shoot there on friday's(senior cit day) when i'm not working. haven't been there for a couple of weeks but will probably be there this friday. need to wring out my rolling block...

You're in the movie biz right? I still shoot there but only on the weekends. Funny how fast time flies, I remember the cases but not the container! Maybe I'll see you sometime at the range.

Be careful with visual identification. 2400 and Bullseye appear very similar. There are differences, but not easy to see.
