Hi Guys, I just got this SC to round out my collection and keep my Remington 03A3 company. It has the OG stamp, so I know it went through inspection or rebuild at the Ogden arsenal. I was wondering whether the stock is original to the rifle. It looks almost exactly like the Remington stock that I have, but you are the experts. I have attached some pictures of the markings. It is a Smith-Corona stock - the larger "circled P" and the diamond sub-inspection stamp show it.
Thanks Rick, I guess that means I have a Smith Corona stock on my Remington because the markings are the same. I thought the Remington was original but I also saw that it had the bigger cross hatches on the butt plate. Oh well, one of the two is original. I might want to trade the other stock that is on my Remington for an original one! Jordan
I'm sorry to say , but your stock , while it is S/C , was made in the first half of '43 , as told by the stock pins in pic #3 rather than stock bolts , where as your rifle was made much later . Is your Remington wearing a S/C stock with bolts ?

Some of the last of the Smith-Corona 03-A3's have pinned stocks. Whether they went back to the pins or used some of the old stocks, I have no idea.
This one is very close to the OP's rifle at serial number 4839385, and is original in as new condition.

Chris, my Remington has the SC stock then with the re-enforcing bolts in it....

The whole thing gets a little confusing, but since the pinned stock came on his very late S-C, I would leave it there.
