We're Lyman Alaskan scopes used on 1903 a4 rifles? We're all mounts Redfield?
Thanks,
The book The Complete Book Of Sniping, by Senich, says on page 96, that the US contracted with Lyman for purchase of Lyman Alaskan scopes for replacements for the M73B1, Lyman
was too busy with production to furnish the scopes. The Lyman Jr base is the only one pictured in any of the photos in the book. I am certainly no expert of sniper
rifles and only happen to have the book to research the answer to your question. FWIW
I have read that the US contracted with Lyman to provide scopes for the M1C during the Korean war
Thanks for the replies
A quick reply (I'm at work) the Lyman Alaskan was supposed to have been the M1903A4's scope, but as noted, they could not get the lense sets from Bausch and Lomb who were making higher priority (sub periscopes, etc.) optics. So, the little weaver was made the standard.
Post war, the M81/M82 Lyman military Alaskans were available in the system, and may have been used.
The Lyman bases were used in Postwar rebuilds.

Alaskan Lyman "B" series serial numbers were first used on the 03A3 and M1C. The nomenclature on the Alaskan Lyman scopes were changed to M81 or M82.
