Looking for some help in identification of these marks on a '42 Long Branch.
The rifle belongs to a friend. I have requested some additional information and better pictures already.

I doubt the stars have any significance other than conveniently covering up what should have been two very clear DP stampings.
All you need to know is what Kiwi has pointed out. That at one time it has been a DP rifle. And neither your pal nor you know why it was downgraded to DP status. Annanuvverfing...... When DP rifles were selected, apart from the obvious ones, you can be sure that they never selected the good ones
