Well for me its hard to go past the I Skennerton, B Temple trilogy on the Martini's for sheer research on the Commonwealth models, And Malcolm Cobb's book is a good reference if you plan on shooting them.

What do you thing is wrong with the Nepal rifles? My MKIV has a mint barrel and about 80% blueing. I've seen ones that had close tp 100% bueing. I have a MKII that is a little rougher but is definately a shooter.

Sorry John, should have said 'this particular one' from the Nepal lot. Fore stock wasn't period , all English markings scrubbed from left side receiver, just not quite what I was looking for. Thanks Michael for the references. Cheers, Don

If you saw a Martini with scrubbed marking on left and wrong stock it wasn't Nepalese. It sounds more like a Khyber Pass gun or even one of the counterfeit sold by SOG. The Nepalese Martini are very much genuine.
The Temple-Skennerton treatise is the better reference, and I consulted with Cobb on his book.
Let me second what has already been said....any rifle with those defects didn't come from Nepal. The Martini-Henrys from Nepal, as sold by IMA, are all Brit and direct from military stores. The MK IV Martinis from Nepal are most often in fabulous condition once the dirt is cleaned off. No Martini-Enfields have been sold from the Nepal cache by the importers, so by definition anything proporting to be a ME didn't come from the cache. Lots of fake ME rifles/carbines have been imported from elsewhere, such as the junk sold by SOG....but if you are new to Martinis and want a genuine Brit Martini, buy one from IMA.Quote:
